Job description

​The Green Recruitment Company are working alongside an Energy & Sustainability Consultancy which helps organisations around the world implement renewable energy, transportation decarbonisation, and other climate solutions. They are growing rapidly and are at the forefront of the energy transition offering products and solutions to corporate and utility customers worldwide. 

In order to fuel and support their growth trajectory, this client seeks a Global Head of Carbon Markets.  In this newly created position, the Global Head of Carbon will partner with the leadership team to develop and deliver on their global growth strategy, leverage their global business development team, and transform the client from a North American carbon market leader into a truly global carbon market leader.

 

The Role:

 The Global Head of Carbon will be a senior member of the Environmental Markets (EM) leadership team and will report to the Head of Environmental Markets.  In addition to collaborating closely with EM leadership on strategic planning and execution of strategic projects, the Global Head of Carbon will oversee a team of traders, originators, developers, and project managers, as well as manage the Carbon Markets team’s collaboration with other key internal groups, such as sales, trade operations, corporate development, and finance. This is a full-time position ideally located in London or another major European market. 

 

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the growth of the Carbon Markets business, with an emphasis on origination and trading to expand the global product portfolio to serve the company’s large voluntary customer base, as well as capitalize on emerging compliance markets;

  • Expand a team of carbon traders, originators, developers, and project managers, with a particular focus on building elements of the team outside of North America;

  • Refine and evolve the company’s long-term Carbon Markets strategy, including the development of new products and offerings for Global 1000 companies across multiple industries;

  • Identifying prospective investments in structured origination and new project development, where the company takes equity or other principal positions;

 

The Individual:

  •  You have deep knowledge of carbon accounting, including both voluntary and compliance markets; possess a strong working knowledge of various carbon standards and methodologies; and are recognized as a leading market expert in this regard. 

  • You have personally executed many trades in the global market and have overseen a large and complex environmental commodity portfolio.

  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in the global carbon market, including selling to voluntary buyers in the Global 1000 category

  • Demonstrated leadership and team building and management skills

  • Experience managing large and complex environmental commodity portfolios

  • Strong knowledge of existing carbon standards and methodologies, validation and verification processes, and existing and prospective compliance markets

  • Established network of carbon traders, brokers, originators, developers, policy makers, regulators, and other industry leaders

  • Experience managing complex and long deal processes spanning external business counterparts and internal stakeholders

  • Strong understanding of financial statements including budgeting, cash flow and capital planning management

  • High personal integrity and experience championing diversity, equity, and inclusivity initiatives
