Our client specialises in technologies such as Solar PV, Wind, Energy Storage, and Natural Gas, delivering both on-site generation and wheeled power solutions.

The Site Engineer is responsible for ensuring the optimal performance, reliability, and safety of a 100 MW solar plant through effective on-site asset management. This role combines hands-on operational oversight with analytical and stakeholder engagement skills to drive continuous improvement in plant performance and efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

1. Operational Management

  • Oversee day-to-day operations of the solar plant to ensure optimal performance in line with ENGP Operations procedures.

  • Conduct regular inspections and quality checks across the solar field and electrical balance of plant (BoP).

  • Identify and address performance deviations through timely corrective actions in coordination with the Plant Operator and specialist service providers.

  • Manage spare parts and inventory to minimise downtime and support continuous operations.

  • Develop and maintain operational tools, templates, and processes to enhance efficiency, consistency, and performance management.

2. Performance Monitoring, Reporting & Analysis

  • Monitor plant performance daily and ensure deviations from expected output or availability are promptly addressed.

  • Prepare accurate monthly and quarterly performance reports covering production, availability, outages, safety (SHE), and key risks.

  • Analyse operational data to identify trends, losses, and opportunities for improvement.

  • Support technical and performance reporting for submissions to Eskom, the Department of Energy, lenders, shareholders, and the site Board.

3. Stakeholder & Contractor Management

  • Manage key site contracts and relationships with the Plant Operator and service providers to ensure safe, compliant, and reliable operations.

  • Support transparent communication with Eskom, the Department of Energy, lenders, shareholders, and the site Board on all operational and safety matters.

  • Collaborate closely with the teams in Cape Town, Johannesburg, and project sites to align on performance objectives and risk management.

  • Coordinate and host site visits for government representatives, shareholders, lenders, and community groups to showcase strong operational standards and safety performance.
