Project Engineer

Job description

​We are seeking a Field Project Engineer to support the construction and execution of distributed generation (DG) solar projects across Illinois. This role will work closely with the Project Manager and Construction Manager to ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently, and in accordance with project specifications. The Project Engineer will play a key role in daily site coordination, documentation, and technical support, acting as the link between field crews, subcontractors, and the project management team. This role requires regular travel to project sites across Illinois.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the Project Manager and Construction Manager in the day-to-day execution of solar construction projects.

  • Assist with site coordination, scheduling, and tracking construction progress.

  • Review engineering drawings, plans, and specifications to ensure field work aligns with project requirements.

  • Manage and track RFIs, submittals, and change orders.

  • Coordinate with subcontractors, suppliers, and field crews to resolve technical and construction issues.

  • Maintain daily field reports, progress documentation, and project records.

  • Conduct site inspections and quality checks to ensure work is completed safely and to specification.

  • Assist with material deliveries, inventory tracking, and logistics coordination.

  • Support commissioning activities and project closeout documentation.

  • Ensure compliance with safety standards, company policies, and local regulations.

Qualifications
  • 2–4 years of experience supporting construction or engineering projects in solar, renewable energy, electrical infrastructure, or heavy civil construction.

  • Experience working in a field-based role supporting project execution preferred.

  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and electrical single-line diagrams.

  • Strong organizational and communication skills.

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced construction environment and coordinate with multiple stakeholders.

  • Willingness to travel frequently to project sites across Illinois.
