Operations and Maintenance Engineer

TGRC has partnered with a UK-based developer and asset manager specializing in utility-scale energy storage and grid flexibility solutions. They develop, finance, build, and operate large battery energy storage systems that help integrate renewable energy into the grid and provide services like frequency regulation, peak demand support, and energy balancing.

Role Overview:

You will be responsible for carrying out preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, warranty repairs, and commissioning activities on energy storage units across multiple BESS sites.

Key responsibilities:
  • Carry out regular inspections, preventative maintenance, annual capacity testing, troubleshooting, and reactive maintenance to ensure Energy Storage Systems are maintained to the highest standard.

  • Perform system software and firmware upgrades as required.

  • Monitor system performance, analyze operational data, and provide assessments.

  • Deliver phone support and remote diagnostics to customers.

  • Diagnose and resolve equipment issues at BESS sites.

  • Oversee spare parts inventory and management.

  • Ensure all work complies with local safety regulations and company safety standards.

  • Conduct risk assessments and implement appropriate safety measures.

  • Complete administrative tasks including timesheets, vehicle checks, and detailed service reports documenting issues and corrective actions.

  • Support the in-house engineering team with product development and project activities.

  • Provide feedback and recommendations from field experience to enhance product performance and reliability.

Essential Requirements:
  • Qualification in an electrical or electro-mechanical discipline.

  • Previous experience in electrical or multi-skilled maintenance, ideally within Solar, Wind, or other renewable projects; experience with BESS is advantageous.

  • Basic IT proficiency, including Word, Outlook, Excel, IP networking, and troubleshooting software.

  • Certification/qualification for safe on-site work.

  • Flexibility to travel to various nearby sites, with occasional overnight stays or international travel required.

  • SEP qualification certificate

Preferred Experience but not essential:
  • Experience with Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) is an advantage.

  • Solid working knowledge of HV/LV power electronics, including inverters, converters, and transformers.

  • Previous HVAC training and possession of an F-Gas qualification.

  • Strong understanding of IT systems, including CMD, remote desktop connections, networking (subnetting, VLANs, static IP/DHCP), and MODBUS/TCP protocols.

  • HV Authorised Person certification/experience.
