Instrumentation & Controls Engineer
Job description
A leading renewable energy consultancy is seeking an experienced Instrumentation & Controls (I&C) Engineer to support the development and integration of large-scale Solar PV and Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) into the grid. This is a key role placed at the heart of project delivery, ensuring seamless technical performance across SCADA, EMS, grid systems and hybrid plant operations.
The Role
Working on medium- and high-voltage hybrid projects (up to 200 MW), you will be responsible for:
Ensuring successful integration of PV, BESS and associated systems into SCADA, EMS and grid networks
Providing technical leadership and solutions across project review, design, specifications, commissioning and implementation
Assessing technology compatibility (inverters, EMS platforms, communications, protection schemes and more)
Working closely with third-party service providers, OEMs and clients – challenging assumptions and validating integration performance
Supporting protection strategies, switchgear coordination and understanding system behaviours (e.g. protection relay responses, network stability, frequency control, grid support requirements)
Communicating clearly with clients, owners engineers and stakeholders – explaining design decisions, defending technical positions and presenting findings
This role is project-focused with no routine travel– instead, you will be hands-on in engineering, analysis, design reviews and integration oversight.
About You
Minimum 5 years’ professional experience, with at least 2 years in hybrid PV/BESS projects
Proven project delivery experience – you’ll have done it in practice, not just studied it
Strong background in I&C engineering including:
SCADA and industrial communications
EMS integration
System engineering and grid connectivity
Protection schemes and switchgear
A critical and analytical mindset when evaluating new technology or vendor solutions
Excellent written and verbal communication in English – able to articulate engineering positions clearly to clients and partners
Experience with industrial-scale PV (30–60 MW) or BESS plants (up to 200 MW) is a strong advantage.
Why Join
This is a consultancy where engineering quality matters. You’ll be at the core of the energy transition, working on impactful grid-connected renewable projects while collaborating closely with colleagues in a face-to-face environment that values knowledge-sharing and professional dialogue.
