Job Summary:

The Design Lead will be responsible for the design, development, and integration of the Plant Master Controller (PMC) for hybrid renewable power plants, including Solar PV and BESS. The role requires strong expertise in SCADA, Energy Management Systems (EMS), grid integration, and control philosophy development to ensure seamless coordination with utilities and system operators. The Design Lead will manage and guide a team of engineers and draughtspersons, ensuring timely delivery of engineering activities within budget while maintaining high standards of quality across all deliverables.

Key Responsibilities:

• Design and develop the control philosophy for the Plant Master Controller (PMC) for hybrid renewable power plants, covering power factor control, voltage control, power curtailment, VAR control, ramp-rate control, and black start functionality, in compliance with grid codes and system operator requirements.

• Define and validate PMC response times to enable grid-forming operation and black start capabilities for standalone grid restoration.

• Ensure seamless integration of the PMC with SCADA, BMS, substation control systems, and utility data centres, incorporating cybersecurity features in line with regulatory requirements.

• Perform pre-award technical evaluation of vendors against client specifications and provide validated inputs to the Supply Chain team.

• Provide spatial requirements and details for cut-outs and openings to the AC Systems Design Lead.

• Ensure timely delivery of all engineering drawings and documents, including vendor deliverables, and obtain required client approvals.

• Estimate and plan engineering man-hour requirements for assigned deliverables.

• Provide technical support and clarifications to the site execution team during construction and commissioning phases.

Technical Expertise:

The Design Lead (Plant Master Controller) should demonstrate:

• Comprehensive knowledge of PV/BESS plant SCADA systems, Power Plant Controllers, Energy Management Systems, and grid integration of hybrid renewable plants.

• Hands-on experience in PMC design, power system control strategies, and grid compliance requirements.

• Strong working knowledge of IEC 61850, DNP3, Modbus, OPC, and other industrial communication protocols.

• Experience with historian data analysis, alarm management, and cybersecurity standards.

• Prior experience with Middle East power regulations and utility compliance requirements.
