Job description
Job title: Grid Connections Engineer
Location: Sydney, New South Wales, Australia (On-site)
The Green Recruitment has partnered with a leading utility-scale renewables developer in the search for a Grid Connections Engineer to help deliver a portfolio of large-scale renewables generation projects predominantly focused on the Australian East Coast.
Primary duties:
Collaborate closely with development colleagues to identify suitable locations for new Solar PV, BESS, or Hybrid projects. Utilize power systems analysis and congestion modelling to support decision-making for new opportunities.
Specify high-level designs for Solar PV, standalone BESS, and Hybrid projects to optimize project configurations. Provide technical guidance to Development and Finance teams for optimized project setups.
Manage the Connection Application Process (R0) for multiple projects across various NEM jurisdictions, ensuring timely project progression.
Proactively manage relationships with project stakeholders, including NSPs, AEMO, Electrical Designer Contractors, and OEMs.
Appoint and oversee external power systems consultants for the delivery of Connection Application Packages. Conduct internal due diligence assessments before submission to NSPs/AEMO.
Skills & Knowledge:
Strong technical knowledge of the NER, with a proven track record of success in progressing wind/solar/BESS connections with NSPs and AEMO.
Excellent knowledge of power systems analysis software packages
Familiarity with HV electrical equipment, control systems, SCADA, protection, and metering.
Ability to manage external consultants for the delivery of design and study packages.
Excellent interdisciplinary communication and presentation skills.
Ability to effectively manage relationships with multiple stakeholders.
Experience Required:
Degree in Electrical/Energy Engineering/HV Power System Engineering or a related discipline.
3+ years of experience in a connections-focused environment within an Engineering Consultancy, Project Developer, NSP, or AEMO.
