Job title: Grid Connections Engineer

Location: Sydney, New South Wales, Australia (On-site)

The Green Recruitment has partnered with a leading utility-scale renewables developer in the search for a Grid Connections Engineer to help deliver a portfolio of large-scale renewables generation projects predominantly focused on the Australian East Coast.

Primary duties:

  • Collaborate closely with development colleagues to identify suitable locations for new Solar PV, BESS, or Hybrid projects. Utilize power systems analysis and congestion modelling to support decision-making for new opportunities.

  • Specify high-level designs for Solar PV, standalone BESS, and Hybrid projects to optimize project configurations. Provide technical guidance to Development and Finance teams for optimized project setups.

  • Manage the Connection Application Process (R0) for multiple projects across various NEM jurisdictions, ensuring timely project progression.

  • Proactively manage relationships with project stakeholders, including NSPs, AEMO, Electrical Designer Contractors, and OEMs.

  • Appoint and oversee external power systems consultants for the delivery of Connection Application Packages. Conduct internal due diligence assessments before submission to NSPs/AEMO.

Skills & Knowledge:

  • Strong technical knowledge of the NER, with a proven track record of success in progressing wind/solar/BESS connections with NSPs and AEMO.

  • Excellent knowledge of power systems analysis software packages

  • Familiarity with HV electrical equipment, control systems, SCADA, protection, and metering.

  • Ability to manage external consultants for the delivery of design and study packages.

  • Excellent interdisciplinary communication and presentation skills.

  • Ability to effectively manage relationships with multiple stakeholders.

Experience Required:

  • Degree in Electrical/Energy Engineering/HV Power System Engineering or a related discipline.

  • 3+ years of experience in a connections-focused environment within an Engineering Consultancy, Project Developer, NSP, or AEMO.
