Job description
We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced High Voltage Estimator with a primary focus on substation projects to join our team in Houston, Texas. This role is critical in supporting the preconstruction phase of high-voltage electrical projects by delivering accurate and competitive estimates. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in high-voltage substation construction, electrical systems, and utility-scale projects.
Key Responsibilities:
Prepare accurate and detailed cost estimates for high-voltage substation construction projects, including greenfield builds, upgrades, and retrofits.
Analyze and interpret engineering drawings, technical specifications, and bid documents to develop comprehensive estimates.
Collaborate with project managers, engineers, procurement teams, and subcontractors to obtain accurate pricing and scope details.
Conduct quantity take-offs for civil, structural, and electrical components related to substations (e.g., transformers, switchgear, control buildings, grounding systems, etc.).
Develop labor and material cost breakdowns based on industry standards and historical data.
Identify risks, assumptions, and exclusions in the estimating process and communicate them effectively to stakeholders.
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of market conditions, material pricing, labor rates, and vendor relationships.
Support proposal development and customer presentations as needed.
Assist in value engineering and cost analysis during the bid review process.
Qualifications:
3–7+ years of estimating experience in high-voltage electrical construction, with a focus on substations (69kV–500kV).
Strong knowledge of utility standards, construction methods, and materials specific to substation work.
Proficiency with estimating software (such as Hard Dollar, Accubid, or similar) and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook).
Experience reading and interpreting one-lines, schematics, civil and electrical drawings.
Strong analytical and organizational skills with attention to detail.
Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
