Job description

Our client, a highly regarded stand-alone battery storage IPP, is looking to appoint a Vice President to oversee the Market Operations for the firm.

This key hire will be responsible for market strategy for the operational battery fleet and influencing decision-making for the extensive development pipeline from a trading and revenue generation perspective. The role is integral to the continued growth of the company's already impressive operational asset and development portfolio.

Ideally, this individual will have an extensive background in energy/renewables with power trading expertise and strong team management credentials.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Drive merchant participation strategy of the operational battery energy storage fleet in ERCOT, NYISO and other markets.

  • Communicate strategy, performance results, and decisions to the management team and investors.

  • Understand and manage risk and value preferences of the management team and investors to build long and short-term market operations roadmaps and balance automatic bidding system software developments with manual trading intervention.

  • Effectively collaborate between the Market Operations team and the Software Development team to plan and enact software updates, new business logic and bidding algorithms that improve revenue, reduce regulatory risk, and improve the robustness and maintainability of the automatic bidding platform.

  • Collaborate with Project O&M, Asset Management and Performance Engineering teams, as well as external parties to align market value with operations and maintenance strategy and ensure efficient project operation in wholesale power markets.

  • Collaborate with regulatory and policy team to advise on market implications of new and proposed regulations, and to incorporate new regulations into bidding strategies as needed.

  • Coordinate with the Project Development team to prioritize deep-dive transmission and nodal analytics for siting and prospecting support.

  • Manage and mentor junior staff.

  • All other duties as required.

Work Experience & Requirements:
  • 8+ years of energy industry or related experience

  • 3+ years experience in or related to power trading or energy market analytics

  • Strong understanding of energy market structures and value streams, including energy, capacity, and ancillary services; experience specifically in the New York Independent System Operator (“NYISO”) and/or Electric Reliability Council of Texas (“ERCOT”) territories a plus.

  • Strong analytical capabilities.

  • Proven ability to lead and mentor.

  • Ability to work in Microsoft Office Suite (including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).

  • Ability to work in a dynamic environment.

  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.

  • A bachelor’s degree in a technical field such as mathematics, computer science, or economics is a plus.

  • Experience programming in Python or driving product development is a plus.v
