Job description

You will be responsible for leading a team of energy traders and pricing analysts. You and your team will be responsible for executing the company’s trading strategy, developing new business by managing inbound tender opportunities, managing relationships with Third Party Intermediaries (TPI’s) and supporting the business by meeting the commercial growth targets. Training for proficiency in using our in house pricing and CRM systems will be provided. A background in an energy supply business is desirable and the successful candidate will be attuned to the various credit support models that exist in managing and tracking mark-to-market positions with a sound understanding of the dynamics involved.

 

The Role:

  • Full trading responsibilities: pre-trade analysis, execution, post-trade analysis, allocations and settlement across multiple strategies both internal and external TPI’s/ brokers.

  • Tracking and analysing wholesale energy prices including the ancillary markets.

  • Maintain product literature and regularly review existing and potentially new contractual features.

  • Ensure all trading activities are in compliance with industry execution policies.

  • Ensure Portfolio Managers and Pricing Analysts adhere to company protocol at all times.

  • Responsible for demand forecasting and execution with industry counterparts across seasons/ quarters/ months including analysis of Baseload Only, Base/Peak load and Residual positions.

  • Manage and maintain strong relationships with commercial trading partners and have a sound awareness of all potential counterparty opportunities in the market.

  • Analysing system Imbalance prices against Baseload only and Base/Peak hedging strategies.

  • Real time tracking of Mark-to-Market (MtM) positions with wholesale counterparties and securing positions through different trading counterparties that preserves overall MtM headroom.

  • Ensuring Pricing Analysts create and set up new tenders in preparation for pricing

  • Generating and submitting supply offers for fixed and flexible products

  • Assisting the development of enhanced supply product innovations

  • Gathering feedback and undertaking analytics for internal reporting

 

The Individual:

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience of working as a trader or risk manager within the Energy industry for either a licensed Supplier and/or Consultancy in a procurement role.

  • Educated to undergraduate degree level.

  • Background in Electricity and Gas is desirable. You will have a sound understanding of the different energy/contract products currently available and a technical ability on all aspects of energy trading.

  • Prior experience with Power Purchase Agreements and a familiarity with the process for shaping renewable export volumes into baseload would be useful.
