Planning Manager- Solar PV

An exciting opportunity for an experienced Planning Manager to join a leading renewable IPP. Your role will be instrumental in supporting the successful development of the existing UK based onshore wind, solar and BESS project portfolio & delivering future growth for the business over the coming years.

Primarily specializing in the development of onshore wind, large-scale, grid-connected solar farms & Battery Energy Storage Systems, you will lead the planning process during the development of projects & evaluating origination opportunities from a planning perspective. The team will be focusing on solar and storage development and secondarily on development of onshore wind, hence onshore wind experience will be viewed positively.

The role will require a high degree of both external and internal stakeholder engagement, attention to detail and risk management.

As Planning Manager your responsibilities will include:

  • Lead TCPA planning process during development across multiple projects. NSIP & Section 36 experience viewed favorably

  • Be the first point of contact with consultants and local stakeholders (e.g. local council)

  • Aid the Head of Development in formulating and executing the development and origination strategy

  • Manage risk effectively throughout the planning process, by taking mitigative actions, and making cost vs benefit recommendations to the Head of Development as required

  • Work closely with the rest of the team, especially the development manager and land and design experts to receive planning permission which is appropriate for the needs of the project

  • Manage consultants and surveys, collate all required information for planning submission, and prepare submission documents

  • Organize the PR response of projects and be the public face of the project during development

  • Create, receive approval for, and manage planning budget for each project

  • Evaluate origination opportunities from a planning perspective

As Planning Manager, you will likely have the following skills and experiences:

  • Be a self-motivated team player with great communication skills and a structured way of working.

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in utility-scale solar farm development cycles, key milestones and risks

  • Proficient with MS Office and comfortable at creating models on excel to assist with your designs/assessment.

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Town Planning, or related discipline.
