BESS Specialist – Utility‑Scale Renewables
Job description
We are supporting a major international organisation delivering some of the most ambitious renewable energy programmes in the region. As part of their continued expansion, we are hiring a BESS Specialist to lead the integration and technical performance of utility-scale Battery Energy Storage Systems across multiple Solar PV projects in the GCC.
This role is ideal for a senior engineer with deep experience in grid‑tied storage, large‑scale project delivery, and hands‑on leadership from design through commissioning.
The Opportunity
As the BESS Specialist, you will play a critical role in shaping the technical success of multi‑GW renewable programmes. You will lead theengineering, analysis, integration, and commissioningof advanced storage systems, acting as the central technical authority for all BESS-related activities.
You will collaborate closely with engineering, supply chain, project execution, and regulatory stakeholders—ensuring every system meets the highest standards of safety, reliability, and performance.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Leadership & System Design
Evaluate BESS solutions for large-scale PV projects across the GCC.
Lead detailed engineering to secure client and regulatory approvals.
Oversee sizing, selection, and layout of batteries, PCS, BMS, and EMS.
Project Delivery & Field Execution
Manage engineering, procurement, FAT, logistics, installation, and commissioning.
Act as the technical point of contact for suppliers, authorities, and internal teams.
Provide on-site support during installation and commissioning phases.
Ensure alignment with project scope, quality standards, and schedule.
Performance, Analysis & Grid Integration
Conduct techno‑economic studies and operational optimisation.
Lead system modelling for applications such as peak shaving, FFR, and load shifting.
Work with grid study teams to validate grid‑forming, Black Start, and VAR support capabilities.
Compliance & Risk Management
Ensure adherence to IEEE, IEC, UL, NFPA and local grid standards.
Manage risk across the project lifecycle and drive quality assurance processes.
Required Experience
10+ years in Solar/BESS projects with at least 3+ years focused specifically on BESS design, integration, or commissioning.
Proven track record delivering multiple large‑scale BESS projects from concept to operation.
Deep technical knowledge of Li‑ion technologies, PCS, EMS, and control systems.
Proficiency with modelling tools (PVSyst, HOMER, MATLAB/Simulink, DIgSILENT etc.).
Strong understanding of utility‑scale grid integration requirements.
