BESS Head
Job description
The Green Recruitment Company is looking for a Project Director-Head to expand a BESS utility-scale platform to oversee the execution of our BESS portfolio projects in Europe. The position is based in Madrid, and the candidate will be in charge of progressing projects from late‑stage development through to Final Investment Decision (FID), ensuring every asset meets technical standards, has solid contractual foundations, and is fully financeable.
Will serve as the central link between development, commercial, legal, engineering, and finance, establishing the contractual and commercial foundations required for deployment at scale.
Responsibilities:
Responsible for advancing projects from late‑stage development to FID, ensuring coherence across technical, commercial, and contractual workstreams.
Lead the negotiation and execution of essential project agreements, including EPC, BESS supply, LTSA/O&M, grid connection, land, and revenue‑related contracts.
Coordinate multidisciplinary internal teams and external experts to confirm bankability requirements are met.
Manage financial close processes in collaboration with the finance function.
Develop contracting strategies that distribute risk appropriately across all stakeholders to lead negotiations with OEMs, EPC contractors, suppliers, and offtakers.
Ensure all agreements meet market standards for performance guarantees, LDs, warranties, and security provisions.
Oversee contract amendments and manage claims‑related risks during the pre‑construction phase.
Design and manage competitive procurement processes for major equipment and construction packages.
Run RFPs for BESS integrators, EPCs, and key balance‑of‑plant suppliers.
Assess bids from commercial, technical, and risk perspectives.
Negotiate framework agreements to support deployment across the portfolio.
Track supply chain conditions, including pricing trends, lead times, and market dynamics in batteries and power electronics.
Act as the primary interface between development, engineering, legal, and finance teams.
Establish execution plans, budgets, and governance frameworks for each project.
Provide regular reporting to senior leadership and investors on progress and FID readiness.
Build scalable processes, templates, and best practices to support the platform’s growth.
Requirements:
Plus 10 years of experience in infrastructure, renewable energy, or power projects with a strong foundation in contract negotiation and commercial project management.
Proven history of steering energy or infrastructure assets through FID and financial close, supported by a deep understanding of EPC contracting, equipment supply agreements, and risk allocation principles.
Experience in battery storage, renewables, or grid infrastructure is highly preferred, alongside demonstrated capability in structured procurement and tender processes.
Possess strong financial literacy and engage confidently with lenders and investors.
Fluency in English and Spanish.
