Position: Grid Interconnection Manager

Reports to: VP, Technical Management

Location: New York, NY (Hybrid)

As the Grid Interconnection Manager, you will be responsible for overseeing and coordinating grid interconnection activities and high-voltage electric system design for a diverse range of projects, including transmission projects, offshore wind farms, battery energy storage systems, and more. Our client's portfolio of development projects includes both repurposing of existing sites as well as construction of new electrical infrastructure to support its energy transition plans.

Essential Job Functions

  • Develop and implement comprehensive strategies for grid interconnection projects, ensuring alignment with regulatory requirements, industry standards, and project goals.

  • Oversee performance of load flow analysis, estimation of costs for system upgrades

  • Oversee the entire interconnection process, from initial application to final approval.

  • Focus on the interconnection needs of various projects, including transmission projects, offshore wind farms, and battery energy storage systems. Collaborate with internal teams and stakeholders to address project-specific interconnection requirements.

  • Support the preparation and submission of transmission and generator interconnection requests to NYISO, PJM, and ISO New England. Engage with system operators to navigate interconnection processes, ensuring compliance with regional regulations and advocacy for reform as necessary.

  • Establish and maintain effective communication with relevant grid operators, regulatory agencies, and other stakeholders. Actively participate in interconnection meetings, workshops, and negotiations to address project-specific requirements and ensure successful outcomes.

  • Collaborate with subcontractors, suppliers, and service providers involved in interconnection and transmission projects. Evaluate potential suppliers and contractors, and support contract negotiations as needed.

  • Ensure all interconnection and transmission activities comply with regional regulatory requirements, industry standards, and grid operator protocols. Stay informed about changes in regulations and proactively address potential impacts on projects.

  • Collaborate with project management teams to seamlessly integrate interconnection activities into overall project plans. Provide regular updates on interconnection progress and issues to senior management.

  • Identify potential risks associated with interconnection and transmission activities. Develop and implement mitigation plans and monitor and report on project-related risks.

  • Manage the budget for interconnection and transmission activities, ensuring that costs align with the project's financial objectives.

Skill Requirements

  • Extensive experience in managing grid interconnection and transmission components

  • Strong knowledge of interconnection processes, grid integration, and transmission infrastructure.

  • Familiarity with NYISO, PJM, and ISO New England interconnection processes and regulations.

  • Exceptional organizational, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills.

  • The ability to communicate complex engineering and regulatory matters

  • Lastly, willingness and ability to work in remote and diverse locations, as required.
