Job description

THE OPPORTUNITY: 

 

  • The Green Recruitment Company is partnered exclusively with a leading smart energy and storage developer in their search for a Financial Controller.  
  • The business has an extensive, subsidy free, solar & battery storage development pipeline across the UK. It now requires an experienced FC to oversee the entire accounting function for the business. 
  • This individual will develop and lead the financial management plan, establishing and implement compliance processes and procedures, including reporting and tax and anticipate and control financial risks in line with business goals and objectives. This will include corporate accounting for the company and project SPVs. 
     

THE ROLE: 

 

1. Organising full accounting and reporting service for the Topco and each SPV or Holdco in the structure - operational accounting and reporting

 
  • Controls, policy, management reporting (annual/ quarterly) versus budget, KPI reporting statutory accounts and tax 

  • Design and supervise the company's procedures including the procurement process, receivables process, salary payments, expense policy, travel policy etc. 

  • Assume overall responsibility for the company’s budgeting (capex, SG&A) process – work with CEO and team to prepare budget, report results, analyze variance and initiate corrective actions to ensure alignment with the JV’s corporate strategy 

  • Treasury: hedging, relationship with banks, covenant reporting as needed, cash extraction/liquidity management 

  • Above for the Topco and each SPV as it is formed. 

  • Monitoring of costs and progress of EPC contractors during the build process to see they adhere to contracts.

 

2. JV Topco accounting via outsourced function  

 

  • Running annual budgets 

  • Running salary payments, expenses, general admin.

 

3. Develop and maintain relationships with financial debt institutions and investors as may be required.  

 

4. Set framework for Commercial investment Decisions: Project by project analysis 

 

  • Running IRR models 

  • Running credit checks as needed 

  • Organising framework for and leading Due diligence, 

  • Securing debt finance (after initial 3 years)

  • Achieving Committee approvals and closing 

 

5. Debt optimization, covenant reporting 

 

6. Taxation reporting 
 
 

THE INDIVIDUAL: 

 
  • Significant experience in infrastructure accounting (qualificed accountant with 6+ years PQE) 

  • Experience working with high capex, large Infrastructure Energy Assets with complex commercial arrangements, preferably PPA /SPPA contracts.  

  • Battery project experience a positive but not necessary. 

  • Experience of large scale / complex project finance arrangements ideally in an IPP or similar public to-private infrastructure project. 

  • Able to contribute to identifying and proactively managing complex commercial issues such as disputes or damages. 

  • Solid Experience in running and delivering month ends 

  • Strong in Financial Modelling 

  • Experience in taking debt into projects/SPVS or holdco financing and reporting on covenants 

  • Strong and up to date knowledge of IFRS 

  • Understanding of principles of Corporation Tax and VAT
