Job description

​The Estimator plays a critical role in developing accurate and comprehensive cost estimates for a wide range of civil infrastructure projects, including roads, bridges, highways, and water/wastewater treatment plants. This position involves the detailed analysis of project plans, specifications, and supporting documents to determine labor, material, and equipment costs. The Estimator works closely with project managers, engineers, and subcontractors to ensure that estimates align with project requirements and company objectives.

  • Road and Bridge Construction

  • Underground Utilities

  • Water and Wastewater Treatment Facilities

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead pursuit efforts by coordinating and preparing competitive, detailed bid proposals.

  • Prepare accurate cost estimates, including quantity takeoffs for labor, materials, and equipment.

  • Analyze market conditions, competitive landscape, and pricing strategies to strengthen proposals.

  • Evaluate and account for project risks in estimate development.

  • Collaborate with internal teams and external partners to pursue strategically aligned projects.

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, contractors, and vendors.

  • Review bid documents to gain a full understanding of project scope and requirements.

  • Maintain and utilize historical cost data to support estimating efforts.

  • Ensure the accuracy and currency of estimating databases and tools.

  • Contribute to the creation and maintenance of cost assemblies and templates.

  • Mentor and support junior estimators, engineers, and project managers.

  • Represent the company at industry events, conferences, and networking functions as needed.

  • Continuously improve estimating procedures to increase quality, efficiency, and accuracy.

Qualifications:
  • Strong background in mathematics, statistics, and data analysis.

  • Proficient in estimating software such as HCSS HeavyBid and takeoff tools like Bluebeam and PlanSwift.

  • Experience using scheduling software such as Primavera P6 or Microsoft Project.

  • Excellent analytical, detail-oriented, and organizational skills.

  • Strong verbal and written communication, interpersonal, and time management skills.

  • Skilled in report writing and strategic planning.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.

Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.

  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in the heavy civil or highway construction industry.

  • At least 4 years of direct estimating experience.

  • Willingness to travel as project needs dictate.

  • Valid driver’s license required.
