Electrochemist Lab Technician
Job description
TGRC has partnered with a fast-growing clean technology company developing next-generation materials that enable a more sustainable and resilient energy future. The company is pioneering advanced materials that replace expensive and scarce elements with high-performance, earth-abundant alternatives. Their innovations are helping accelerate the global energy transition, with applications across clean energy, industrial manufacturing, and advanced electronics.
The Role
We are seeking a hands-on Electrochemical Lab Technician to support the development of advanced materials and components for electrolysis.
This is a high-impact, practical role in a fast-paced lab environment, offering significant opportunities for learning, contribution, and growth.
Key Responsibilities
Operate and maintain electrochemical equipment (potentiostats, electrochemical cells, electrolyser systems)
Fabricate catalyst-coated membranes (CCMs) and substrates (CCSs) for electrolysers
Assemble MEAs and integrate them into electrolysis systems for performance testing
Conduct electrochemical tests (e.g. cyclic voltammetry, impedance spectroscopy, chronoamperometry)
Design and modify experimental setups for electrolysers, fuel cells, and related systems
Formulate catalyst inks and apply coatings using advanced deposition techniques (spray, slot-die, decal transfer)
Analyse test data to optimize performance, efficiency, and durability
Support the scale-up of electrochemical processes for commercial deployment
Maintain a clean and safe laboratory environment, ensuring compliance with safety procedures
Track and manage lab inventory and consumables
Calibrate, troubleshoot, and maintain lab equipment to ensure reliable results
Collaborate with cross-functional teams and share results to advance broader R&D goals
About You
You’re a technically minded, detail-oriented individual with a passion for experimental science and clean technology. You thrive in hands-on environments and enjoy turning complex chemistry and engineering challenges into practical solutions.
Essential Skills & Experience
MSc in Electrochemistry, Electrochemical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Materials Science (exceptional BSc candidates with strong experience also considered)
Hands-on experience in electrochemical testing and lab equipment operation
Experience in a mechanical workshop or experimental setup environment
Exposure to industrial or pilot-scale systems (highly desirable)
Familiarity with coating techniques (spray, slot-die, etc.)
Experience working with electrolyser or fuel cell stacks (a plus)
Strong problem-solving skills and a collaborative mindset
Comfort working in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary startup environment
