Country Manager
Job description
I am supporting a confidential international renewable energy developer in their search for an experienced Country Manager to lead project development activities in Germany. The company develops large-scale solar PV, wind, and battery storage (BESS) projects across several European markets.
Role Overview
The Country Manager will be responsible for the overall management and execution of project development activities in Germany, from site identification through to ready-to-build status. The role includes team leadership, stakeholder management, and alignment with group-level strategic objectives. The position reports directly to the Group CEO.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and develop the German project development organisation.
Oversee site identification, assessment, and land acquisition for solar, BESS, and hybrid projects.
Manage grid connection processes and interactions with grid operators.
Build and maintain relationships with authorities, municipalities, consultants, and external partners.
Ensure all permitting, planning, and land securing activities are completed according to regulatory requirements.
Oversee budgeting, reporting, and project delivery to the RTB stage.
Represent the organisation in local and regional negotiations and public settings.
Support activities related to financing, PPAs, and the transfer or sale of ready-to-build assets.
Candidate Requirements
Degree in Engineering, Renewable Energy, Environmental Science, Business Administration, or a related field.
15+ years of experience in the renewable energy sector, including senior project development or country management responsibilities.
Demonstrated expertise in site acquisition, permitting, and regulatory processes in Germany.
Strong understanding of grid connection and planning procedures.
Proven leadership and negotiation capabilities.
Fluent in German and English.
Regular travel within Germany is required.
Team Structure
Direct leadership of approx. 20 employees, expanding to 25 by 2026.
Oversight of project development, land acquisition, permitting, GIS, and office/portfolio management functions.
Matrix collaboration with legal and grid engineering teams.
