Senior Business Development Manager

Job description

Our client is a well-capitalised international renewable energy investment platform with an active global development footprint. The firm is strengthening its early-stage screening capability to support disciplined, scalable expansion across multiple markets.

The Role

This is an investment development role focused on early-stage, data-driven screening of renewable energy opportunities across both new and existing countries. The role sits upstream of investment committees and execution teams, acting as a filter to ensure pipeline quality, comparability, and capital discipline. The ideal candidates are currently based in Hong Kong with experience in infrastructure investment, renewable development, advisory, or management consulting, who are seeking broader geographic exposure without relocating overseas.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain structured country-entry and market-assessment frameworks covering regulatory regimes, tariff mechanisms, fiscal incentives, local-content requirements, FX considerations, political risk, and ESG constraints.

  • Screen, rank, and maintain early-stage project pipelines across assigned countries, ensuring consistency and comparability of inputs.

  • Track and assess key project fundamentals including resource quality, grid access, land control, permitting status, and sponsor background.

  • Build and maintain working relationships with developers, IPPs, funds, banks, EPCs, and professional advisors as part of early-stage market intelligence and opportunity sourcing.

  • Coordinate closely with internal technical, legal, and financial teams to ensure early-stage assumptions are aligned with downstream execution requirements.

Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree or above in engineering, energy, economics, planning, or related disciplines; master’s degree preferred.

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in renewable project development, infrastructure investment or advisory, or management consulting; direct renewable-energy exposure is required.

  • Strong capability in bottom-up country research and early-stage project assessment.

  • English as a working language. Mandarin Chinese required at a working level for internal coordination and business communication with Chinese-speaking stakeholders.

  • Comfortable operating across time zones and cultures; willingness to travel as required.
