Job title: VP of Market Fundamentals

Location: United States (Remote)

We are delighted to be partnering with a leading developer of utility-scale energy storage projects to support their search for a VP of Market Fundamentals to join their team. Fantastic time to join a team of industry veterans with a pipeline of 5+ GW across the US.

The ideal candidate will have expertise in front of the meter, utility-scale storage/renewables development, utility management, ISO/RTO operations, and/or energy economic consulting. As the VP, of Market Fundamentals, you’ll act as the expert on market design and fundamentals for the company’s energy storage portfolio and will lead the Siting & Analytics team.

Responsibilities

Market Fundamentals

  • Robust understanding of North American electric market operations with a focus on energy storage participation.

  • Review technical market design topics impacting BESS - FERC orders, state-level policy, and other regulatory filings.

  • Operational planning, trading, and analysis of power generation portfolios in deregulated wholesale power markets.

  • Understanding of energy market designs, including the use of Unit Commitment/Economic Dispatch models.

  • Provide market intelligence updates and monitor relevant transmission, generation, and load forecasts.

Analytics

  • Run, modify, and build analytical tools.

  • Conduct quantitative analysis to guide strategic market decisions.

  • Possess proficiency in handling energy market data and programming, particularly in Python with a focus on utilizing APIs and data science topics.

  • Experience with techno-economic analysis.

Siting

  • Lead efforts to identify economic opportunities and suitable sites for energy storage assets.

  • Provide consultation on project development decisions, including site prospecting and interconnection feasibility.

  • Offer technical testimony in regulatory proceedings as needed.

Regulatory Monitoring

  • Engage in ISO/RTO and utility stakeholder meetings.

  • Serve as the company's expert on transmission-related market design and regulatory matters.

  • Monitor market trends, policy changes, and regulatory developments.

  • Lead and manage the Siting and Analytics team, supporting internal analysis and strategic evaluations.

Skills and Experience

  • 7-12 years of experience in the electric power industry.

  • Proven ability to present findings to internal and external stakeholders.

  • Previous experience in generation facility siting and analytics.

  • Familiarity with energy storage technologies.

  • High-level understanding of ERCOT/MISO/SPP including market design/regulatory framework, market products, market fundamentals, interconnection data, transmission planning process, and related data sources.

  • Knowledge of ERCOT/MISO/SPP market frameworks and related data sources.

  • Proficiency in Python or similar coding languages.
