Background:
Our client, a key player in the US energy storage sector, is looking to hire an experienced Director of Origination to support the team-lead in business development activities, US-wide, across the business' utility projects. You'll have the chance to join a dedicated team who are all market drivers in renewable energy with the goal of contributing to the transition to a low-carbon, sustainable economy.
The successful candidate will be integral to building customer relationships, researching customers and market prospects, developing and executing strategies to grow the deal pipeline, and project managing.
**This is a fully remote role for US-based candidates who are based outside of the New York Metropolitan area. For those located in the area, the business encourages a hybrid work arrangement in its NYC office (2 days a week)**
Main Responsibilities, Duties and Tasks
Respond to RFPs and lead bilateral conversations with utilities throughout the US, proactively managing each step of the deal cycle, from customer discovery or land acquisition strategy to negotiating a definitive agreement
Coordinate all aspects of site origination with internal subject matter experts including site control, feasibility scoping, due diligence, preliminary design, permitting, PILOT/local tax negotiations, interconnection, incentive securement, budgeting, and schedule development
Develop and implement effective land campaign strategies, including working with in-house GIS analyst to drive site selection and due diligence process
Remain current on electric utility opportunities, renewable trends, and market participants/competition to facilitate proactive development and early-mover positioning
Maintain strong networks with energy industry representatives and key stakeholders in the utilities industry and project development at large
Communicate on a regular basis in meeting with supervisor and team members, including in person meeting in NYC headquarters as needed to foster strong collaboration among team
Qualifications/Training:
It is essential that the post holder has:
Bachelor's Degree in business, economics, engineering or other relevant field
Minimum 5 years of successfully originating and closing renewable utility-scale projects, a minimum of 3 years experience in the life-cycle development of solar or energy storage project development
Knowledgeable in energy markets with an understanding of key project value levers (financial, commercial, other).
Demonstrable track record of selling to US utilities
Proven project management skills including cross-functional team management, due diligence, logistics, communication, budgeting, and scheduling
Exceptional organizational, communication, decision-making/problem-solving, analytical, and time management skills
Base Salary Range: $140,000- $160,000 + Commission
Salary Commensurate with Qualifications and Experience.
