Job description

The Trading Analyst position is a crucial role within the Trading Team that combines the day-to-day duties of trading power, gas and environmental products through third parties with support activities, such as modelling to assist Trading strategies and the roll out of new retail products and propositions.

The Role:

  • Hedge power, gas products and renewable products in line with the appropriate risk policies, industry regulations and trading instructions

  • Trade both prompt and curve products

  • Produce the traded position and P&L reports

  • Review and approve the third-party trading invoices

  • Analyse UK energy markets and their drivers to provide up-to-date market intelligence to the senior management team

  • Co-ordinate the trade booking and physical nomination process

  • Support the non-trading stakeholders, particularly financial, asset management and settlements functions

  • Analyse market data to help develop and execute trades

  • Develop and maintain trading KPIs to evaluate success of strategies and trading operations

  • Support new product and proposition launches

  • Calculate commodity risk premiums

  • Build commodity curves for the retail pricing model

  • Support the development of new hedging strategies and ad-hoc projects

The Individual:

  • Proven ability to work as part of a team

  • Good organisational and planning skills

  • 3+ years’ experience of working in the GB energy or utilities sector

  • Understanding of energy wholesale markets and commodity risk

  • Understanding of industry process & parties

  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal, and interpersonal skills

  • Analytical mind-set with strong excel skills

  • Experience of or willingness to learn technical skills such as SQL and Python

  • Ambitious and seeking to develop new capabilities.

  • Mathematics, science, engineering, economics or similar degree level education
