Take ownership of the architecture and development of Upvolt’s main website and associated tools, primarily built using WordPress, PHP, and MySQL.
Make strategic decisions regarding development tools, frameworks, and third-party integrations.
Capitalise on significant technological opportunities within the business, including the Energy Management System platform, a required customer-facing app, and future Virtual Power Plant ambitions.
Review and oversee all development output, ensuring adherence to coding best practices and standards.
Lead initiatives to improve platform performance, scalability, and security.
Establish and maintain CI/CD pipelines, testing frameworks, and efficient development workflows.
Collaborate closely with offshore development partners to ensure high-quality and timely delivery.
Provide hands-on technical mentorship and support to resolve complex development challenges.
Coordinate with design, content, and business teams to ensure seamless execution of projects.
Own and manage the QA process and oversee structured release cycles.
Ensure all deployments meet predefined functional and performance benchmarks
Experience:
Minimum of 5 years of professional development experience, including 1–2 years in a technical leadership or senior development role.
Advanced proficiency in PHP and WordPress (including custom plugin and theme development), MySQL, RESTful APIs, HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
Strong understanding of modern engineering practices such as Git-based workflows, CI/CD, and quality assurance methodologies.
Proven experience managing and collaborating with remote or outsourced development teams.
Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
Highly pragmatic, hands-on, and committed to delivering high-quality solutions.
Must be based in London and able to work from the office full-time, with some flexibility for remote work.
Experience or familiarity with the solar, clean energy, or utilities sectors is a strong advantage.
