Job description
This role involves overseeing the design and project engineering of substation projects, working under minimal supervision to ensure successful execution.
Key Responsibilities/Accountabilities
Provide engineering expertise for substation projects, working alongside designers and drafters to create detailed drawings and other necessary documentation for project implementation. This includes developing physical and control design packages.
Develop specifications and review approval drawings for equipment and materials to be purchased. Assess vendor qualifications and bid proposals, offering recommendations for the procurement of major substation materials and equipment.
Evaluate the qualifications and bids of engineering contractors and provide recommendations for contracting engineering services related to substation projects. Prepare and manage contracts for engineering and construction work.
Assist in maintaining and updating a comprehensive set of design standards and procedures.
Stay informed on industry best practices for substation design and engage with teams in Protection and Controls, Operations and Maintenance, Engineering Technical Services, and other departments to ensure the continued safe and reliable operation of substations.
Represent the engineering team in meetings and committee sessions as required.
Provide cost estimates to assist with the planning and budgeting of capital projects.
Perform other duties as needed or assigned.
Qualifications
A bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from an accredited institution is typically required.
7-10 years of relevant experience in the electric utility industry, with the option to substitute education and experience in place of a degree.
Excellent communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently.
