The Role:

The Solar and Storage O&M Technician is a site-based role performing O&M and upgrades on multi MW solar and battery storage systems. You will guarantee safety and performance at minimum cost.

 

The ideal candidate will be a fully qualified electrician with experience in solar or battery storage assets at the MW-scale. This is a permanent role and will require availability for weekend on-call duties. The ideal candidate will have a specialism in one of the following:

 

  • Inverters
  • High voltage assets, e.g. SAP
  • Communications, SCADA, PLCs or CCTV systems
  • Plant repair and sub-contractor management

 

 

The responsibilities of the Technician include:

  • Adherence to and improvement of health and safety standards
  • Identify upgrades and repairs required. Produce detailed scope and pricing and submit these to the Client. Build up a steady pipeline of project work to meet the needs of the business.
  • Ensure all project work is undertaken or procured from subcontractors in accordance with company processes and procedures.
  • Undertake project work according to legal, technical, manufacturer and contractual requirements
  • Manage sub-contractors and undertake quality checks on their work.
  • Carry out reactive maintenance, fault diagnosis and resolution
  • Inspection, testing and maintenance of PV modules, DC string combiner boxes and string inverters
  • Keeping accurate maintenance records and compiling reports
  • Keeping in close communication with the O&M office
  • Occasionally working away from home for training courses or to cover other sites for up to 1 week at a time
  • Achieve and maintain Authorised Person status commensurate with training received, experience gained and in-line with individual job role requirements
  • Undertaking AC and DC testing, troubleshooting and fault-finding
  • Carry out reactive maintenance, fault diagnosis and resolution in a timely manner
  • Troubleshooting and repairs on sensors and communication equipment including RS485, Ethernet and fibre optic networks
  • Configuration of computer-based devices and components, including firmware updates
  • Occasionally assisting with ground maintenance or mechanical work
  • Keeping accurate maintenance records and compiling reports
  • Keeping in close communication with the O&M office
  • Occasionally working away from home for training courses or to cover other sites for up to 1 week at a time
  • Other duties commensurate with the role

 

The Individual:

  • Strong technical understanding of AC, DC and communications networks
  • Good knowledge and understanding of solar PV technology

  • Solar PV maintenance experience, ideally on MW-scale or large commercial systems
  • Experience of working remotely without close supervision

  • Full UK driving licence
  • Qualified electrician (17th edition)
  • Inspection and testing qualifications (C&G 2391 or 2394/5)

  • Solar PV installation experience (MW-scale or large commercial ground-mount)
  • Central inverter experience
  • High Voltage experience
  • Knowledge of central inverters
  • Principles of High Voltage operations
  • First aid qualifications
  • Health & Safety qualifications (e.g. IOSH, SSSTS, CSCS)
  • Advanced electrical qualifications
  • Solar PV qualifications (C&G 2372 or C&G 2399)
  • Central inverter qualifications
  • High Voltage qualifications
