Job description

​My client is a leading developer, owner and operator of utility-scale energy storage and hybrid renewable projects that power our communities and cities. Their mission is to responsibly decarbonize the grid and make North American energy markets more affordable, sustainable, and efficient. As a leader in the industry, they now have over 15 GW of utility-scale energy storage and hybrid renewable energy projects in development, and 32 projects in operation or construction across North America.

 

They are seeking a Senior Generation Interconnection Engineer to serve as the lead for the company's interconnection activities with primary responsibilities to include the creation and submission of interconnection application, managing projects throughout the interconnection process, evaluation of transmission and distribution tariffs, costs, timelines, designs, and processes across North America. This position will participate in the development of the overall strategic plan for both the development team and the broader business.

 

This position requires excellent communication and collaboration skills as well as the ability to work well under pressure, multitask, and shift priorities on the go. The successful candidate will be well organized, comfortable in a dynamic environment, have strong attention to detail, and can synthesize and conceptualize complex ideas. A passion for renewable energy is a plus.

Responsibilities:

-          Together with the appropriate support team, reviews and develops interconnection applications, study agreements and associated drawings, specifications, and models;

-          Perform interconnection project management, communicating the schedule and budgetary and milestone requirements for projects going through the interconnection process;

-          Estimates network upgrade costs and cost allocations based on the relevant interconnection process;

-          Operate as a communication bridge between more technical internal and third-party engineering, commercial, development team and the management team;

-          Expedite projects through ISO interconnection queues, timing queue entry and working with the ISO and TOs to minimize network upgrades and maintain project schedule;

-          Estimates network upgrade costs and allocations based on the relevant interconnection process;

-          Negotiate interconnect and study agreements with the relevant ISO, RTO and TO (multiple study agreements, ISA, CSA, and GIA);

-          Work with internal subject matter experts to communicate interconnection and transmission issues related to development and acquisition of projects;

-          Participate in team member meetings for relevant generation interconnection, market rules and transmission expansion planning groups;Manage and review the work of third-party consultants to perform market analysis, power flow, dynamic, short-circuit and reactive capability of the projects.

​Key Qualifications:

-          Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering;

-          3 years minimum of Interconnection process experience in at least two ISO/RTO regions;

-          5 years experience preferred in electrical engineering;

-          Interconnection Agreement negotiation experience a plus;

-          Strong understanding of utility business models, processes and incentives related to interconnection tariff;

-          Excellent balance of technical, project management, and negotiating skills. Clear communication is vital to the success of this position;

-          Demonstrated project management skills and ability to multi-task;

-          Professional presence with strong communication and presentation skills;

-          Able to build trust by demonstrating high ethical standards and personal integrity.

Compensation and Location:

Salary:  A base salary commensurate with experience.

Bonus:  An annual bonus will be awarded based on both individual performance as well as the overall success of the business.
