Job description
Our client specializes in developing complex, large-scale solar and energy storage projects from early-stage development to financial close. Their current pipeline includes approximately 2.0 GWp of solar PV and 1.75 GW/3.5 GWh of BESS nameplate capacity.
The successful candidate will join the development team to support the advancement of large-scale solar and BESS projects across the UK, while also contributing to the exploration of new technologies and markets. The Land PDM will be responsible for identifying suitable land, engaging with landowners to secure letters of authority for grid access, exclusivity agreements, Heads of Terms, and eventually lease and option agreements. Additionally, the Land PDM will collaborate closely with the development team to manage and progress projects, overseeing risk, budget, timelines, and the coordination of consultants.
Key Responsibilities:
Land:
Identify and secure land options and all associated easements and wayleaves for the purpose of utility scale solar and battery storage development
Build and maintain a network of land agents and contacts across the UK to assist with land acquisition
Work with others in the company to identify and drive forward origination opportunities
Work with the development team to screen land for development identify landowners and generate contact details
Negotiate and secure letters of authority, exclusivity agreements and Heads of Terms with landowners
Work with the team to understand the commercial terms that can be offered to landowners while maintaining an economically viable project
Instruct external legal teams to sign-off HoTs and generate land lease and option agreements
Negotiate easements and wayleaves with landowners and their representatives as required
Advise the development and management teams on all aspects of land acquisition and policy
Project Management:
As required, manage, coordinate and engage with all internal and external stakeholders including but not limited to the project team (including consultants), sub-consultants, lawyers, landowners and land agents
Report to the Head of Projects and the Projects and Development Director on progress in terms of programme, key risks and actual spend against forecast budget
Prepare monthly programmes and progress reports and issues
Prepare and issue application for payments to sub-contractors monthly
Act as first point of contact with the wider project team of specialists, consultants and legal advisors
Support public information days and statutory consultation events as required
Attend meetings with stakeholders to ensure appropriate progression of the projects
Keep fully informed of key market developments and industry news to quickly identify insights for risks and opportunities for the project pipeline
Work to support the growing business as it develops and undertake other duties as required. These may include but not be limited to: admin & finance, accounts, treasury, IT, website, expense claims, insurance, holiday/off-work records, office equipment, company organisation, business plan
Help to build and develop team culture in a growing new team
Qualifications:
5+ years of land acquisition experience with a desire to develop into a hybrid project management role
Experience in the planning process for Nationally Significant Infrastructure Projects and applications progressing under the Town and Country Planning Act regime
Knowledge of National Grid processes
Knowledge of financial forecasting and controls
Experience managing programme with Microsoft Project
Co-ordination of internal team players and external specialists
Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines
Relevant training and/ or studies (renewable technologies, engineering, geography, law, spatial planning or similar)
Strong communication skills
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Excellent use of Microsoft Office, Sharepoint, Teams amongst other software
Excellent command of the English language
Positive attitude and desire to help drive forward an exciting pipeline of projects
Full UK Driving Licence
