Job description
A leading developer, owner, operator in the clean energy sector is seeking a highly capable Manager of Energy Storage Engineering to lead technical strategy and design execution for utility-scale battery energy storage systems (BESS). This is a pivotal role within a growing engineering team focused on delivering high-performance, safe, and commercially viable storage solutions across the U.S. and select international markets.
Key Responsibilities:
Manage, coach, and support a team of early-career engineers responsible for design, testing, and execution of grid-scale energy storage projects.
Oversee the technical development of storage system designs, including preliminary layouts, augmentation strategies, and project optimization tools.
Review detailed designs from external consultants and internal team members to ensure project quality and performance standards are met.
Collaborate cross-functionally with construction, procurement, project management, and safety teams during project delivery and commissioning.
Support negotiation of technical terms with suppliers, EPCs, and clients, particularly around scope definition, performance guarantees, and warranties.
Contribute to internal process improvements and the development of technical standards and documentation.
Guide the team through fire safety considerations, testing protocols, and ongoing project evaluations.
Stay up to date on emerging battery technologies, system integration best practices, and supplier innovations.
Represent the engineering team in internal and external stakeholder meetings.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (electrical, mechanical, or related discipline required).
At least 5 years of relevant engineering experience, with increasing responsibility.
Proven experience delivering or managing utility-scale battery storage projects.
Strong organizational and leadership skills with a track record of mentoring technical staff.
Ability to travel up to 25% for project and team-related needs.
Must be eligible to work in the U.S. without current or future visa sponsorship.
Preferred:
Master’s degree in Engineering or related discipline.
7+ years of experience in energy storage, renewable energy, or power systems.
Experience participating in contract negotiations and cross-functional project delivery.
Familiarity with energy storage augmentation strategies, grid interconnection, and commissioning protocols.
Compensation & Benefits:
Base Salary: $125,000 – $150,000
Performance Bonus: Up to 40%
