Project Development Manager BESS

Job description

​We are seeking an experienced Project Developer – BESS to lead the development of standalone battery energy storage projects across Germany. The role covers the full project lifecycle - from site identification through permitting to ready-to-build status.

This is a fully remote position within Germany, requiring regular travel for site visits and stakeholder meetings.

Key Responsibilities

Project Development

  • Development of standalone Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects from site identification to ready-to-build status

  • Identification, assessment, and acquisition of suitable project sites

  • Management and coordination of all zoning, land-use planning, and permitting procedures

  • Securing grid capacity, connection conditions, and grid compatibility assessments with network operators

  • Ensuring project maturity in compliance with all technical, legal, regulatory, and commercial requirements

Land Acquisition

  • Coordination and support in identifying, evaluating, and securing suitable land plots

  • Preparation and negotiation of land lease and purchase agreements in collaboration with legal advisors

  • Presentation of projects and negotiation with municipalities and local authorities

Stakeholder Management

  • Building and maintaining strong relationships with authorities, grid operators, municipalities, planners, consultants, and other key stakeholders

  • Managing and coordinating external consultants and technical advisors

Commercial Responsibility

  • Preparation, monitoring, and reporting of development budgets (in coordination with management)

  • Support in financing processes and route-to-market strategies

Candidate Profile
  • University degree in Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Energy Technology, Industrial Engineering, or a comparable qualification

  • 2-5 years proven experience in renewable energy project development, ideally with a strong focus on BESS

  • Strong understanding of the German regulatory, technical, and permitting framework

  • Experience securing grid connections and working with German TSOs/DSOs

  • Structured, analytical, and solution-oriented working style with a high level of autonomy

  • Strong negotiation skills and confident stakeholder engagement

  • Fluent German (business level) and very good English skills

  • Willingness to travel within Germany
