Job description

​I am delighted to be working with one of the largest Renewable Energy companies on the planet and helping them in their search for aPrincipal Energy Market Analyst.

This role would suit someone with a well-rounded knowledge of the Energy Markets space and understanding Gas and Electricity markets is essential.

Key Responsibilities

  • Head the Market Analysis stream within the analytics team

  • Collaborate with the Spot Trading, Forward Trading, Portfolio, and Commercial teams to Forge tools for delivering market analysis and insights for Australian Gas and Electricity physical and contract markets

  • Assess external reports from market bodies and consultants and offer perceptive summaries to internal stakeholders.

  • Supervise collaborations with external consultants providing market modeling for various projects

  • Collaborate with Manager Analytics on intricate, undefined tasks with minimal assistance from Manager (e.g., gather requirements, devise a design, implement and test)

  • Guide and educate junior members of the team

  • Spearhead the analytical requirements for large projects, e.g., tenders for products/new developments, with minimal assistance

  • Ensure the completion of analytical work to a high standard and within the set timeline, while regularly communicating the project's status to Manager Analytics

  • Provide innovative thought leadership and creativity in developing novel solutions to new problems, in conjunction with the Manager Analytics and Principal Analyst Quantitative Modelling

  • Proactively propose new possibilities for analytics/projects to the Manager Analytics

Knowledge and Skills:

  • 6 to 10 years relevant experience to the role

  • NEM and East Coast gas market experience

  • Ideally experience running a market model (e.g. Plexos or similar)

  • Technical / programming skills SQL, Microsoft Excel, coding in R and Python

  • Statistical skills collection, organisation, analysis, and interpretation of numerical data

  • Excellent analytical thinker and problem solver work revolves around coming up with models, tools and techniques that have not been done before, as such, there is a lot of experimentation

  • Project Leadership and mentoring of junior team members
