Job description

The Green Recruitment Company is working alongside a merchant banking firm focused on providing the highest quality financial advice and execution services to its clients.  Its clients include major public and private companies, private equity and the infrastructure fund community. Founded in 2016, the firm is entirely dedicated to the Energy Transition with coverage of all component subsectors including but not limited to solar, wind, hydro, and batteries.

This client combines in-depth industry expertise with market-leading advisory skills, actively advising its clients across four key pillars, which enables the firm to carry out some of the markets’ most cutting-edge transactions, namely M&A, debt advisory, intermediate capital, and energy markets advisory, operating as a one stop shop for sponsors in the Power sector.

The firm is currently experiencing increased deal flow in the Energy Markets advisory business, and demand for risk management, route to market, and asset optimisation services.

The Role:

The candidate will be expected to manage advisory mandates in the energy markets space, such as running PPA tenders, advising on PPA negotiations, and advising on hedging solutions. The candidate will also be required to structure products as part of these advisory mandates and potentially as part of trading activities that can provide solutions at the interface between trading and investment banking, tailoring such solutions to the needs of clients. Furthermore, the candidate will be expected to contribute towards pitches and origination, both of markets advisory mandates, trading mandates, and in support of the wider business.

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to contribute to efforts to setup a new trading capability in the London HQ, with the opportunity to shape this business and the team that is built to support it. The candidate will also be able to have influence on the market entry strategy for this business, supporting decision making around which markets, territories, and sectors to enter or prioritise.

The Individual:

The candidate will have 3-5 years of experience of power markets advisory, power origination, or asset backed trading and portfolio management experience at a large utility, bank, or trading house. The candidate will have experience in negotiating, structuring, and originating PPAs, Flex PPAs, and tolling agreements. The candidate should have an understanding of the management of risk and valuations of linear and non-linear products for liquid and illiquid maturities across European energy markets.

More than any specific professional experience, the candidate will need to demonstrate exceptional aptitude and a degree of intellectual sophistication to thrive at the highest levels, both internally and with clients. Additionally, the candidate will have the credibility to independently handle complex advisory mandates and indeed relish the opportunity to structure ground-breaking transactions that very few firms are capable of winning.
