Job description

​The Green Recruitment Company has partnered with a leading developer, owner and operator of renewable power projects and storage solutions in the United States for the search of a Manager of Transmission Engineering.

The Manager of Transmission Engineering will join our client's growing battery storage IPP team in Chicago. The primary responsibilities include performing transmission system analysis in various RTO/ISO markets to guide project siting and perform strategic analysis. This role will prepare, submit and manage interconnection requests as well as support the development and commercial operation teams.

Responsibilities

  • Perform transmission sensitivities and power flow analysis to support development initiatives.

  • Review transmission system analysis, identify interconnection agencies and procedures, prepare and file interconnection requests including supporting internal and external parties with preparation of technical materials. Provide viability feedback to the team and other internal stakeholders to support any financial and project approvals needed.

  • Review and analyze utility pre-screen reports, System Impact Studies, Interconnection Service Agreements, and manage a portfolio of utility interconnection applications from initial submission through closeout.

  • Development of single line diagrams for distribution-level and transmission-level interconnection applications & electrical permits.

  • Analyze interconnection due diligence materials to support project acquisition efforts, identify existing and potential red flags.

  • Review utility impact studies and upgrade estimates to identify cost or time saving measures.

  • Manage external consultants performing interconnection and transmission studies as well as curtailment and congestion analyses.

  • Serve as subject matter expert for utility requirements and medium-voltage design.

  • Lead utility status calls, maintain utility relationships, and manage utility performance to tariff deadlines.

  • Lead technical utility negotiations and drive implementation of non-wires alternatives, selective curtailment, and other grid-edge technologies.

  • Provide congestion and constraints analysis to assist in daily fleet operations.

  • Participate in industry and ISO transmission and interconnection forums.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in transmission planning and power flow analysis.

  • Proficiency with simulation software such as Power World, TARA, PSS/E.

  • Knowledge of System Impact Studies (SIS) and other interconnection studies of battery storage facilities with the ISO/RTO markets and ISO interconnection processes.

  • Understanding of electrical diagrams, preliminary site plans, and preparation of interconnection request packages for submittal.

  • Familiarity of transmission systems and transmission expansion plans in US.

  • Knowledge of Open Access Transmission Tariffs and Generator Interconnection Procedures.

  • Ability to lead advocacy and technical negotiations to facilitate advancement of Advanced Power’s projects.

  • Experience with substation design and transmission-level power system protection and coordination is preferred.

  • Working knowledge of NERC planning standards and FERC rules and regulations.
