Connections Lead – Energy Storage, Utility Solar & Onshore Wind

Location: Sydney/Brisbane, Australia

We’re delighted to be partnered exclusively with an exciting battery storage IPP in their search for a Grid Connections Engineer.

The firm develops, owns and operates grid-scale battery storage assets ranging from 50-600MW. The company has grown substantially since starting up in recent years and now has a comprehensive origination, development and asset engineering team – a real mix of energy veterans, mid-career experts and young, ambitious talent.

Working with the Head of Engineering, this role will provide sound electrical engineering advice and technical support for the development, construction and long-term operation and maintenance of a portfolio of grid-scale BESS and Onshore Wind projects.

Main Responsibilities within this role will include, but are not limited to:

  • Provide professional engineering advice and technical support for the long-term operation and maintenance of existing assets, development opportunities and new assets as they are added to the portfolio.

  • Liaise with internal and external subject matter experts to analyse and resolve issues including troubleshooting support etc

  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of Asset Management and Business Plans with a specific focus on:

  • HV/LV apparatus, power generation assets

  • Transformers, switchgear, and protection schemes

  • Compliance with current standards, guidelines and practices

  • Engaging with and providing advice to internal and external stakeholders through grid connection processes in line with National Electricity Rules (NER) clause 5.3.9.

  • Actively manage and support others to ensure Generator Performance Standard compliance across all assets.

  • Ability to respond to and support unplanned and emergency site events including dealing with any issues arising with electrical and communication equipment at renewable generation sites.

  • Manage external service providers and contractors.

Your Profile:

  • Degree in Electronics Engineering

  • 4 years' experience in electrical maintenance, design and high voltage generation equipment

  • Experience working with transformers, protection controls, switchgear associated to HV & LV apparatus is desired

  • Knowledge of the National Electricity Rules and interfacing with AEMO, TNSPs and DNSPs is desired

  • Good verbal, written and interpersonal skills
