Electrical Engineer
Job description
We are looking for a seasoned Electrical Engineer to contribute to early-phase engineering and technical oversight for utility-scale renewable energy developments, primarily solar PV and battery energy storage projects. This individual will play a key role in reviewing and strengthening electrical designs during the development stage, with particular expertise in medium-voltage systems such as collection networks, inverter/PCS integration, MV switchgear, and substation coordination.
The engineer will work across projects from initial concept through transition to EPC execution, ensuring electrical designs are technically sound, aligned with interconnection requirements, and proactively de-risked before construction begins. This role reports directly to the Director.
Primary Responsibilities
Development-Phase Engineering & Site Layout Review
Provide electrical engineering support during early project development, focusing on feasibility and risk identification.
Evaluate preliminary site layouts from an electrical standpoint, including equipment positioning, inverter/PCS grouping strategies, MV routing, access considerations, and substation interface assumptions.
Review and coordinate PVsyst modeling inputs such as electrical losses, DC/AC ratios, inverter configurations, and layout-driven parameters.
Identify potential electrical or layout-related risks early and recommend mitigation strategies before EPC engagement.
Electrical Design & Technical Assumption Validation
Assess preliminary electrical designs for MV collection systems, grounding schemes, protection approaches, and inverter/PCS integration concepts.
Confirm the accuracy and consistency of electrical assumptions prior to formal engineering handoff.
Ensure alignment between physical site layouts, electrical system concepts, and grid interconnection requirements.
Interconnection & Power Systems Coordination
Support grid interconnection activities in collaboration with internal teams, consultants, utilities, and ISOs/RTOs.
Review technical inputs used in power system analyses, including load flow, short-circuit, grounding, and protection coordination studies.
Assist in addressing technical feedback from utilities and grid operators.
Contribute to the development-stage review of transmission and substation interconnection scopes.
Equipment & Technical Specification Support
Review and enhance preliminary specifications for major electrical components such as power transformers, MV switchgear, and PCS/inverters.
Coordinate with equipment manufacturers to evaluate technical data and performance parameters.
Provide technical support during factory or site acceptance testing (FAT/SAT) when required.
Cross-Functional Collaboration & EPC Transition
Work closely with development, permitting, procurement, and construction teams to maintain schedule alignment and manage electrical risk.
Facilitate a structured and well-documented engineering transition to EPC partners.
Support technical due diligence efforts for financing, partnerships, or acquisitions.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, preferably focused on power or energy systems.
Minimum 7 years of experience supporting utility-scale renewable energy projects, particularly solar PV and/or BESS.
Practical experience with MV electrical systems, including collection systems, PCS/inverters, transformers, grounding, and protection at the development and design-review level.
Experience reviewing or contributing to power system studies in coordination with utilities or engineering consultants.
Knowledge of relevant standards and codes such as IEEE, ANSI, NEC, and NESC.
Experience collaborating with utilities, EPC firms, OEMs, and third-party engineering consultants.
Familiarity with regional interconnection processes (e.g., PJM, ERCOT, MISO) preferred.
Exposure to substation and transformer scope review; detailed high-voltage design experience not required.
Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously with minimal supervision.
Willingness to travel as needed for site visits and technical meetings.
Experience with PV and BESS integration at the MV transformer interface level is advantageous.
Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred.
