Job description
I’m so excited to be partnered with a rapidly growing utility-scale battery storage company in their search for a Director of Markets, Commercial Operations!
They are quickly becoming a leader in the battery storage industry and are backed by some of the biggest financiers in the industry. With approximately 2GW of large-scale batter storage projects in development, they are looking to expand their team!
As the Director of Markets, you will oversee the commercial optimization and portfolio risk management of their growing fleet of operational front-of-meter utility-scale battery energy storage projects. The Director will report to the SVP of Commercial Operations, you will have the responsibility of developing and implementing the commercial optimization strategies and processes necessary to deliver high quality financial results.
Key Responsibilities:
Develop and implement both short and long-term portfolio optimization strategies across all relevant markets.
Create and maintain real-time reporting of energy risk positions within the portfolio, delineating location, tenor, time-of-use buckets, NG equivalents, and any other relevant parameters required for effective quantification and management of portfolio risks.
Oversee daily optimization of the Company’s assets and deliver summaries of results on a regular and/or as-needed basis.
Coordinate and manage regular reporting of actual commercial performance versus budget, optimal outcomes, benchmarks, and competitors.
Collaborate with cross-team personnel to help develop component-specific revenue projections of existing deals and assets as well as potential commercial transactions.
Work with market consultants to develop and maintain a deep understanding of all North American energy markets to support and inform revenue budgets and long-term forecasts for the Company’s projects.
Cultivate relationships with industry contacts of potential offtakers, regulated utilities, munis, coops, market makers and other energy market participants to support business goals and growth objectives.
Coordinate the development, implementation, and accuracy of settlement models for each asset within the Company’s portfolio and dynamically incorporate out-of-market/uplift charges into forward revenue projections.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree or higher in Business, Engineering, Finance, or a related field.
Ten (10) or more years of experience in wholesale commercial energy optimization.
Demonstrated experience in energy markets. Battery storage experience a plus.
Strong quantitative skills. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to communicate effectively with all levels of management and external parties.
Demonstrate the ability to integrate work across relevant areas, manage risks and safety appropriately, develop and execute business plans, manage information, and provide exceptional service to internal and external stakeholders.
Demonstrate effective resource and project planning, decision making, results delivery, team building, and the ability to stay current with relevant technology and innovation.
Demonstrate strong ethics, influence and negotiation skills, interpersonal skills, and the ability to effectively manage stress and engage in continuous learning.
Team player and can collaborate with other teams and leaders in the organization.
