Job description
We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Director of Engineering to lead our engineering team and drive the successful delivery of projects. This role requires a strong background in interdisciplinary engineering, with expertise in electrical, mechanical, civil, and structural disciplines. The ideal candidate is a strategic leader with exceptional communication skills and a results-driven mindset.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead and coordinate multi-disciplinary engineering activities for photovoltaic projects, covering civil, electrical (low and medium voltage), battery storage, and structural engineering.
Oversee the development and approval of facility architecture, including site layouts, equipment selection, and racking structures.
Manage and hold the engineering team, including third-party providers, accountable for timely and quality task completion.
Collaborate with third-party engineers for contracting, scheduling, design reviews, and implementation.
Supervise the creation and accuracy of energy production models, including shading scenes.
Ensure compliance with permitting, utility interconnection agreements, and jurisdictional requirements.
Conduct site assessments and oversee engineering team visits during active construction phases to ensure design adherence and quality.
Cultivate client relationships to ensure design and project delivery exceed expectations.
Monitor project financials to ensure budgets are met and projects remain financially healthy.
Support project management and development staff with engineering expertise to align with organizational goals.
Review and approve prime contracts, proposals, and development opportunities to ensure alignment with strategic objectives.
Qualifications:
Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field. PE is a plus but not required.
5+ years of experience in solar design or electrical engineering.
Proven experience managing a team of engineers (3+).
Expertise in Medium Voltage systems, PVSyst energy modeling, and CAD/SketchUp.
Field engineering experience preferred.
Strong understanding of equipment selection and procurement.
Ability to work independently and lead in a fast-paced environment.
Strong problem-solving, communication, and decision-making skills.
Detail-oriented with professional customer-facing skills.
Valid driver’s license and ability to pass a pre-employment drug screen and criminal background check.
