Job description

​Our client, a leading Developer of Renewable Energy projects, is seeking a highly qualified Director, Environment and Permitting to oversee and manage their E&P department. In this role, you will be responsible for leading all aspects of the department, including budget management, employee supervision, business development, project management, and project development support. You will serve as the primary point of contact for all E&P-related activities, specifically focusing on renewable technologies such as Wind, Solar, and Battery Storage. Your key responsibilities will include delivering mapping solutions for routine E&P projects, coordinating project aspects, leading permitting and environmental compliance for projects in various stages of development.

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with Project Developers and technical staff to develop effective environmental study and permitting strategies.

  • Coordinate environmental consultants to conduct various surveys, including preparing scopes of work, assisting with requests for proposals, and reviewing reports/permit applications.

  • Create milestone schedules, budgets, and staffing recommendations to ensure timely permitting and compliance.

  • Develop CapEx and OpEx estimates for projects.

  • Provide support for project financing efforts.

  • Represent the company in meetings with state and federal resource agencies.

  • Attend internal management meetings and report on environmental/permitting issues.

  • Conduct environmental and permitting due diligence for potential sites and acquisition opportunities.

  • Participate in industry groups focused on environmental and wildlife issues and share updates with the team.

  • Travel to project sites for agency meetings.

  • Coordinate, communicate, and collaborate with various departments and project managers regarding E&P matters.

  • Effectively communicate complex technical issues to non-technical E&P users through verbal and written means.

  • Plan, organize, supervise, review, and evaluate the work of the E&P project team, fostering independent judgment, high performance, and personal accountability.

  • Provide training, coaching, assign tasks, and monitor the quality and quantity of work performed by the E&P team.

  • Work collaboratively in a team environment and mentor junior staff members to facilitate efficient completion of development projects.

Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of experience in the energy sector or consulting field.

  • 10+ years of experience in a supervisory role.

  • Master's Degree or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.

  • Strong problem-solving, negotiation, and oral/written communication skills.

  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience with environmental/permitting regulations pertaining to complex energy projects in development, construction, and operation.

  • Preferred experience with NEPA, ESA, CEQA, and/or wind/solar wildlife interaction issues.

  • Experience navigating complex regulatory environments.

  • Ability to work independently and effectively manage multiple diverse project responsibilities.

  • Willingness to travel as required.
