The Green Recruitment Company are currently retained by a global IPP who are looking for a Wind Technical Development Manager to work out of their UK office.

Responsibilities

The position's primary focus on the inception and assessment of fresh investment prospects and the development of brand-new greenfield projects, all aimed at reaching a target of 2 gigawatts of mature assets. We're actively seeking a seasoned and greatly motivated Wind Technical Development Manager to bolster our commitment to onshore wind expansion. In this capacity, you'll collaborate closely with both the investment and project development teams, spearheading technical workstreams within onshore wind initiatives.

Being a part of the Investment Team, your responsibilities will encompass providing technical insights into onshore wind investment opportunities spanning various developmental stages. This encompasses orchestrating the technical facets of the due diligence process, as well as leading the charge in structuring construction and operational agreements for projects in their advanced stages, ensuring that all technical risks are aptly assessed and mitigated as an integral part of the project's investment framework.

Within the Project Development Team, your role takes on a broad spectrum of responsibilities concerning all technical aspects related to the execution of renewable energy projects, from the very inception to the attainment of Financial Close. The Development Team's tasks encompass evaluating the suitability of sites for renewable energy generation, obtaining necessary regulatory approvals, and satisfying prerequisites for site construction, as well as aiding in guiding these projects through to Financial Close.

This role encompasses a multitude of crucial functions, including:

  • Direct reporting lines to either the Technical Director or the CEO

  • Taking charge of the development of a project or a project portfolio, with a notable focus on the adherence to international best practices from a technical standpoint. During the site identification phase, your task will be to leverage technical expertise to optimize financial returns.

  • Evaluating project prospects at various stages, spanning early-stage to advanced-stage (both pre and post-permit stages), which include evaluating project teasers, model assumptions, and investment memorandums.

  • Assessing project feasibility, overseeing contract negotiations, and steering the course of tendering processes encompassing TSA, BOP, O&M, asset management, and construction management.

  • Establishing a direct interface with project finance teams to ensure the requisite structuring of projects for financing purposes.

  • Fine-tuning project design and financial outcomes by methodically selecting technologies and optimizing various project parameters. This role further includes providing sustained technical support throughout the construction phase.

  • Bearing responsibility for the final technical endorsements for a multitude of technical inputs in the diverse projects you support.

  • Offering expert guidance on the structure of deals and maintaining stringent controls over documentation.

  • Managing third-party providers responsible for technical reports and external due diligence.

  • Leading routine project meetings to oversee project delivery while keeping senior management apprised of ongoing developments.

  • Actively fostering the educational and developmental needs of colleagues, including those who are under your supervision.

Qualifications:

  • A rich background spanning 8 to 12 years in the wind energy sector, with a specialized focus on wind project development. The incumbent must be presently engaged with a development platform, an independent power producer (IPP), or a direct competitor to the business

  • A foundation in engineering, incorporating comprehensive experience in site evaluation, overseeing complete development cycles, handling grid connections, and selecting engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) partners.

  • Demonstrated mastery of the intricacies of investor technical due diligence requirements and a noteworthy track record of overseeing and steering intricate projects.

  • Demonstrated adeptness in managing both commercial and technical risk factors.

  • An advanced level of expertise in a variety of domains encompassing the development process, including GIS/technical data competencies, regulatory and planning aspects, grid connections, and executing projects through to Financial Close.

  • Strong business acumen, adept at recognizing the impact of technical decisions on financial returns, and a relentless commitment to seeking sustainable avenues for enhancing returns over the course of the project development lifecycle.

  • Mandatory experience in emerging markets and a palpable enthusiasm for pursuing opportunities within these markets.
