The Opportunity

A unique opportunity for an experienced project developer to join an innovative European renewable energy IPP, specializing in the development, financing, construction, and operations of wind, solar, hydro and bioenergy assets worldwide. The portfolio currently stands at over 525MW across 50+ operational sites worth over $3 billion, with a siginifcant portfolio and pipeline throughout the USA.

As a direct report to and working closely with the Chief Executive on a day to day basis and closely with the Project Management Team, local management the Development Manager will coordinate and ensure success of wind project development from origination until full permitting / project financing is successfully complete.

The Development Manager will focus on wind development, however depending on the specific opportunities available from time to time, projects in other technologies may be undertaken. 

The Role

  • Manages utility scale wind projects
  • Oversees landowner lease negotiations in projects involving large numbers of landowners
  • Establish, monitor and update Development Budgets as required through the development phase
  • Micro-sitting and permitting
  • Coordinates the project interconnection process, including grid integration studies and grid connection agreements
  • Oversees project environmental and wildlife studies
  • Coordinates project budget, schedule, and pro forma
  • Review and update business plans/forecast models
  • Provides support in negotiation of power purchase and asset agreements
  • Manages the implementation of local, state, and federal permitting
  • Oversees project consultants, including environmental, engineering, transmission, etc.
  • Community engagement, public meeting, public presentations
  • Performs other duties as assigned
  • Working knowledge and ability to perform and complete performance monitoring and energy yield assessment
  • Management of technical auditors
  • Technical support for contracts
  • Support to the financing team
  • Lead the improvement process of internal development tools
  • Contribute to securing new project opportunities 
  • Capitalize return on experience – lessons learned process improvement 

The Person

  • Engineer with generalist, environmental or energy background. Undergraduate degree in a development related field with a strong academic record required;
  • Master's degree preferred
  • Five to seven years of energy development experience; direct wind development experience preferred
  • Experience in developing wind projects would be appreciated
  •  Proven track record in project management and contract negotiations
  • Able to run project financial models
  • Articulate and able to assist in management, client, and public presentations
  • Willing and able to travel 50%

Software skills

  • Experienced user of OpenWind or similar WRA software
  • Experience of dealing with CFD calculations
  • Familiar with GIS
  • Proficiency with the Google and Microsoft Office suite of products (Word, Excel and
  • PowerPoint)
  • Experience with Microsoft Project
