This role is responsible for direct supervision of all on-site construction activities, ensuring safety, quality, schedule, and budget adherence across engineering, procurement, and construction phases.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead the on-site execution of EPC substation projects from groundbreaking through commissioning.
Coordinate daily field operations with internal teams, subcontractors, suppliers, and utility clients.
Implement construction plans and interpret engineering drawings, schematics, and technical specifications.
Maintain accountability for schedule compliance, quality control, and productivity.
Enforce all safety standards (OSHA, NFPA 70E, company-specific protocols) and lead daily toolbox talks and site safety walks.
Review procurement schedules and ensure timely delivery of materials and equipment.
Verify subcontractor scopes, coordinate sequencing of work, and resolve field-level issues.
Interface with engineering teams to clarify design documents and provide field-engineering feedback (RFI, redlines, etc.).
Ensure adherence to project budgets by controlling labor, equipment, and material usage.
Conduct progress reporting, quality inspections, and close-out documentation in coordination with QA/QC and project management staff.
Manage and mentor field crews and junior supervisory staff.
Minimum Qualifications:
7+ years of experience in substation construction, with at least 3 years in a supervisory or superintendent role.
Proven experience with EPC project delivery models.
Strong working knowledge of high-voltage substation components (transformers, circuit breakers, bus work, grounding, control buildings, etc.).
Ability to read and interpret P&IDs, electrical one-lines, and structural/civil drawings.
Familiarity with NESC, NEC, IEEE, and utility standards.
Proficiency in construction software tools (e.g., Procore, Primavera P6, MS Project, or similar).
Strong organizational and leadership skills with the ability to manage multiple subcontractors and disciplines.
Willingness to travel and work extended hours as required by project schedules.
Preferred Qualifications:
Prior experience with utility clients (e.g., Xcel, PG&E, Duke, AEP, etc.).
OSHA 30, CPR/First Aid certification, and NFPA 70E training.
Knowledge of renewable energy integration or BESS-related substations.
Experience with civil scopes (grading, foundations, trenching, conduit routing) and mechanical rigging
