Solar PV Engineer - Renewable IPP

The Opportunity

A rare opportunity to join a leading Renewable IPP's central engineering function. The successful candidate will advise on Asset Management, Development/Construction, and due diligence.

The Role

  • Develop, implement and maintain best practice management processes, guidance and standards related to engineering that embed lessons learned and knowledge gained for the benefit of the whole company. Support in assuring understanding of, and adherence, to such processes.
  • Maintain knowledge of current PV technologies and technology developments. Support the development projects by contributing to major equipment specification and selection, assessing technology risk and opportunity at both corporate and project level.
  • Work alongside the Performance and Energy Analysis Team to develop early-stage engineering designs for utility scale PV assets, and related standard practices.
  • Support project pre-construction activities in defining contractor obligations, requirements and technical specifications, reviewing agreements and technical annexes and participating in negotiations.
  • Review project designs, suitability for site specifics and make recommendations for optimisation for safe and reliable expected operational life, for pre-construction assets and during implementation of design for construction assets.
  • Specify and/ or carry out QAQC protocols, acceptance testing, site inspections, and End of Warranty inspections, supporting the local team on follow-up and resolution of identified issues and negotiate with contractors and suppliers on the outcome of such inspections.
  • Lead projects to resolve defects, equipment failures and incidents on site to minimise downtime.
  • Work closely with the Performance and Energy Analysis Team and Asset Management teams in investigate root cause of performance issues
  • Support or lead on maintenance agreement scope and requirements and negotiation with contractors as required. Provide technical support to project team interacting with service contractors as appropriate.
  • Identify innovative and/or value adding solutions to operations, remote condition assessments and preventative maintenance processes.
  • Support or lead on asset life assessments and lifecycle management strategies for utility scale PV assets.
  • Attend site visits and factory acceptance tests as required.
  • Carry out engineering and technical due diligence on potential acquisition projects, both in development and in operation, working proactively with country teams to develop solutions for mitigating risks and adding value
  • Develop and maintain tools to support the assessment of DEVEX, CAPEX and OPEX assumptions.
  • Candidates will be required to support with other renewable energy generation technologies such as wind turbine technology, in similar capacity as listed above

The Person

  • Degree qualification in electrical or other relevant engineering discipline.
  • Demonstrable experience and expertise in solar PV gained from working on development, engineering and / or operation of utility scale PV assets either as asset owner, technical adviser, EPC contractor or O&M contractor.
  • Depth of knowledge of PV technology and system subsystems.
  • Detailed knowledge of major component suppliers.
  • Experience in negotiating EPC and O&M agreements.

Requirements

  • Experience in both PV and wind energy would be advantageous.
  • Experience with SCADA monitoring software, and third-party data analytics software tools to assist with reliability and performance analysis would be advantageous.
  • Qualification in either Green Belt/Black Belt 6 sigma or PAS 55 would be advantageous.
