The Opportunity

The company has teams in over 10 countries, including major solar power markets such as China, USA, Canada, UK, France, Spain, Germany, Turkey, Poland, Japan, and Thailand. By leveraging its global presence and extensive distribution and sales network, they are well-positioned to develop high quality green energy projects with attractive returns around the world.

Our client is seeking an experienced, competent and diligent candidate who can support the utility-scale solar and battery project development team. The candidate will work closely with the project initiation team and development management personnel, and other departments to develop solar and battery projects. Key responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

 

The Role

  • Develop preliminary PV and BESS system site plan drawings;
  • Run PVsyst simulation and system production optimization, and optimizing battery cycling and sizing;
  • Conduct technical DD to support project initiation team and development team on projects or sites;
  • Prepare for Request for Proposals (RFP) and support proposal development. Provide proposal input including detailed technical project descriptions;
  • Prepare Utility/ISO interconnection application and correspond with the Utilities on subsequent studies. Able to understand study results and provide recommendations to the team;
  • Thorough understanding of DC systems (0-2,000Vdc) and AC systems (480V-500kV);
  • Review and provide comments for electrical calculations including short circuit, cable and conduit sizing, grounding, voltage drop, incident energy and relay coordination;
  • Coordinate and consult with broader engineering and development teams to design, layout or detail components and systems, and resolve design or other problems;
  • Incorporate site studies information (hydrology, topographic mapping, geotechnical studies, and ALTA surveys) within site constraint drawings;
  • Review potential sites and assist in identifying impactful conditions (slopes, land features, soiling, structural considerations) to help target team to our most competitive land options;
  • Understanding of county or regional design considerations. Incorporate feedback from development team to incorporate site and feature offsets;
  • Assist in the site and design optimization work, related to acreage, site usage, site features, technical and economic considerations;
  • Select the equipment of modules, inverters, and trackers to ensure the best overall project design; Understand and evaluate BESS solution to better support project development and project RFPs
  • Support the development team on all permitting related engineering issues;
  • Manage outside engineering consultants;
  • Assist to review technical parts of Power Purchase Agreements;
  • Support project asset sales to address all technical questions.

The Person

  • Bachelor in Electrical Engineering or equivalent field;
  • 5+ years engineering experience in PV industry;
  • Experience working with Utility scale battery storage projects;
  • Experience with Utility Scale projects (20 MW to 300MW);
  • Utility-scale solar PV design, and/or project development experience;
  • Experience with various Utilities and independent system operators (ISOs) on interconnections;
  • Experience in production modeling software such as PV Syst;
  • Able to interact effectively across organizational boundaries to achieve goals and meet deadlines;
  • Experience with battery storage modelling software is a plus;
  • Engineering, analytical and technical writing skills;
  • High attention to detail and strong organization skills;
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
