During project execution, this role ensures the project is adequately prepared for transition to a Long Term Service Agreement (LTSA).

The ESS Services Engineer plays a key role in closing out engineering action items and punch lists following project delivery. Ongoing responsibilities include supporting field technicians, service managers, and authorized service agents throughout the LTSA period and O&M phase. This position requires experience in the optimization of DC and AC coupled Battery ESS, system integration, and ESS controller design.

Responsibilities:

  • Hold a Bachelor's Degree in an engineering discipline.

  • Possess a minimum of 8 years of professional experience in Systems and/or Electrical Engineering.

  • Demonstrate knowledge of power systems, battery systems, and control systems.

  • Exhibit a business-level understanding of electricity, power generation, and energy markets.

  • Be available to travel approximately 50% of the time.

Qualifications:
  • Validate project documentation in coordination with the project engineering team. Review and be familiar with design specifications, block diagrams, system interfaces, and other applicable documentation to ensure optimal support to customers and service teams.

  • Serve as a technical interface for customers and subcontractors, offering expertise in troubleshooting, diagnostics, and root cause analysis during operations.

  • Understand the interfaces of Battery ESS, PCS, PPC/SCADA, and PMS. Be able to interpret single line diagrams, schematics, and validate switching procedures.

  • Review and confirm project-specific requirements and customer specifications. Assess specifications, design, qualification, and certification of BESS integration (Battery + PCS/MVPS + PMS) post-O&M transition, including augmentation when necessary.

  • Apply knowledge of system-level development for power systems, conversion systems, and SCADA/plant management systems. Be familiar with industry standards for integrating battery systems with power conversion and control systems.

  • Define and implement action plans and create work instructions for field technicians, customers, and authorized agents/subcontractors to perform site work.

  • Support bid and proposal teams with technical queries during the bidding phase. Provide operational feedback to improve the bidding process.

  • Apply technical policies, engineering best practices, and lessons learned across engineering, services, and product development teams. Submit improvement requests and analysis through internal tools such as JIRA.

  • Coordinate and conduct annual performance tests, and prepare reports for delivery to the customer.

  • Provide engineering support with an emphasis on safety and customer satisfaction. Develop technical service bulletins and lead root cause analyses.

  • Maintain understanding of relevant industry standards and codes such as NFPA 855, UL9540, UL9540A, UL1973, UL1642, UL1741SA, and others as applicable.
