Job description

The Role:

  • Develop algorithms and software for the evaluation of power sales deals (long-term and short term) using large scale data sets (including but not limited to historical power market data, forward markets, grid data, load data, etc..)
  • Perform data analytics tasks in support of asset development and power offtake negotiations as requested by the business
  • Develop optimization algorithms for the assessment and implementation of alpha investment/trading opportunities across power markets using both proprietary and other market models
  • Support strategic and tactical sale of power as required with data analysis and running of required algorithms and software
  • Develop algorithms and software and models in support of power trading functions (e.g. dispatch and power flow models, hedging and position management models)
  • Provide analytical support to traders for making hedging and pricing decisions (later stage)
  • Support bank financing transaction with analysis as required

The Individual:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, software development, engineering, finance, or other mathematics related subjects; Master’s degree a plus
  • Strong coding background with work experience in using Matlab, R, Python and/or other programming languages or other languages aimed at application scripting, web scraping, computational statistics
  • Experience in working with large databases to access, manipulate and process data
  • Experience in working with quantitative models desirable (academic work also acceptable in lieu of work experience on a case-by-case basis)
  • 4+ years of experience in a similar position in a commodity trading or consulting firm, utility, or power infrastructure developer or financial sector
  • Ability to effectively interface with multiple roles and build relationships both internally and externally within the organization and with clients
  • Strong commercial and proactive mindset with the ability to take initiative across multiple tasks
  • Knowledge of financial modeling and solar PV engineering desirable
  • Languages: English (native speaker or excellent command), additional languages welcome
