Role Summary

This role must play a featured contribution to wind turbines blade design and validation. The role scope includes participate in the wind turbine design team contributing to an integral point of view regarding the aerodynamic and acoustic performance of the wind turbine. Besides, is necessary to specify the requirement for wind turbine blades according to optimal tradeoff between production, loads and noise. The participation will be focused on developing optimal wind turbine aerodynamics according to international standard and best practices guidelines. However, a demonstrated expertise in fluid dynamics, flow models developing, detailed CFD, simplified CFD models as well as analytical models is necessary.


The Responsibilities of the Role

  • Provide technical solutions and design support for Wind Turbine aerodynamics (Blades, nacelle, spinner).

  • Provide analysis and data processing leading to obtain an optimal aerodynamic performance with maximum loads reduction in presence of different levels of noise constrictions.

  • Provide support to develop blade aerodynamic and aero acoustic models including, detailed CFD, simplified CFD models as well as analytical models.

  • Interact with the design engineering team to provide inputs for optimal wind turbine design.

  • Support experimental validation of methods and models regarding aerodynamic and aero acoustic design.

  • Interact with software developers to provide inputs for post processing software tools.

  • Assessment of new concepts in aerodynamic blade design.

  • Consideration of environmental conditions (temperature, air density, wind speeds and solar radiation) relative to their influence on the operation of the wind turbine regarding aerodynamic behavior.

  • Support design review process and all its interaction regarding component specification, design and validation including all related documentations.

  • Providing support for integrated aerodynamic and structural blade model and optimization.

  • Supporting parametric studies and controller tuning methodologies of wind turbine systems for both existing wind turbines as well as new and innovative design concepts.



  • MS or PhD Degree in Aeronautical/Mechanical Engineering with specialization in fluid/aero dynamics, or similar field with Wind Energy emphasis.

  • More than 7+ years of hands-on experience on the design of blade shapes within wind turbine industry.

  • Experienced in modeling and simulating rotors in at least one aero-elastic simulation tool such as BLADED, FAST, HAWC2, or similar.

  • Performing wind turbine blade design and analysis using BEM (blade element momentum) models, 2D airfoil design and optimization, perform 2D/3D blade and airfoil CFD using commercial CFD packages.

  • Understanding of fundamental aerodynamics as it relates to moderate Reynolds, low Mach, steady and unsteady, turbulent and laminar, incompressible, external flow.

  • Understanding of applied aerodynamics as it relates to airfoils, lifting wings, rotors, and horizontal axis wind turbines.

  • Strong oral and written communication skills capable of communicate effectively and provide recommendations through the analysis, preparation and presentation of technical data to internal and external customers.

  • Proficiency in English.

  • Knowledge in wind turbine certification, including IEC and GL requirements.

  • Familiar with blade structure analysis for next generation wind turbine blades with an emphasis on analytical and numerical structural analysis, optimization, and manufacturing.

  • Tool development, both for aerodynamic analysis as well as interdisciplinary with loads and structures.

  • Chinese culture and working directly with Chinese companies and customers.

  • Proficiency in programming and mathematical modeling in MATLAB, Python, C/C++, or similar.
