Job description

We are delighted to be supporting an international renewable energy developer committed to driving the transition towards a sustainable future through the development of cutting-edge energy projects, in their search to hire a Senior Associate to add to their growing in-house legal team.

Role Overview:

This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in the legal aspects of renewable energy projects, with a particular focus on property, planning, and environmental law. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience negotiating agreements to lease and options to purchase, ensuring our projects proceed smoothly and efficiently. Familiarity with Native Land title will be a distinct advantage.

Your role:

  • Lead and support the negotiation, drafting, and review of property agreements, including agreements to lease and options to purchase, for renewable energy projects.

  • Provide legal advice on land acquisition, property rights, planning approvals, and environmental regulatory requirements.

  • Work closely with internal project development teams, external stakeholders, and legal counterparts to ensure compliance with land use, planning, and environmental laws.

  • Oversee the preparation and negotiation of other key project agreements, including easements, rights of way, and environmental impact assessments.

  • Represent the company in negotiations with landowners, public authorities, and other third parties.

  • Provide support in the legal aspects of due diligence processes and project financing.

  • Stay up-to-date with developments in renewable energy law, property, planning, and environmental regulations.

Your background:

  • Qualified solicitor (4-6 years PQE) with a background in property, planning, and environmental law, with a focus on renewable energy projects.

  • Proven experience in negotiating and drafting agreements to lease, options to purchase, and other property-related contracts.

  • Strong understanding of land title, planning, and environmental laws as they relate to large-scale energy developments.

  • Experience with Native Land title issues is highly desirable.

  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills with the ability to manage relationships with diverse stakeholders.

  • Experience of QLD and VIC-based projects is highly desirable.

This is one of our favourite clients to support as they're doing some great work in support of the Australian Energy Transition plus have an extremely good culture to boot.
