Job description

The Opportunity:

A North American utility-scale energy storage company is looking to grow their Real Estate Transactions team. This role will work look to provide support in real estate matters related to the development, construction, and operations of their energy storage project portfolio.

The Role:

Securing Agreements and Easements:

  • Work closely with the development team to secure agreements for site control, crossings, easements, and necessary licenses.

  • Ensure these agreements are valid and maintained.

Real Estate Document Management:

  • Coordinate and manage the recording of real estate documents.

  • Maintain a system for tracking and organizing site control documents.

Site Diligence:

  • Research ownership of surface rights, competitor leases, mineral ownership, liens, and encumbrances.

  • Assess sites for qualification for the Investment Tax Credit Community Energy Bonus Adder.

Title Review:

  • Provide support for the initial review of title reports.

  • De-risk title issues by coordinating with title companies and surveyors.

  • Develop real estate risk summaries and trackers.

Compliance and Agreement Tracking:

  • Ensure compliance with real estate agreements, including tracking option and lease agreement payments.

  • Track agreement expiration dates.

Third-Party Consents:

  • Support efforts to obtain third-party consents through outreach to external parties.

  • Finalize title curative work needed for project financing, construction, and operation.

  • Coordinate title commitments and title insurance.

GIS Platform Support:

  • Maintain and support an internal GIS platform, including data management, web map maintenance, and user support.

Cross-Functional Coordination:

  • Regularly coordinate among cross-functional groups to understand project status and communicate real estate considerations.

The Individual:

  • 2-5 years of experience as a title examiner, paralegal, landman, or similar (required)

  • Experience with real estate agreements including options, leases, purchase and sale agreements, and easements (required)

  • Experience in renewable energy or oil & gas or utilities (required)

  • Experience populating trackers (required)

  • Strong organizational skills (required)

  • Understanding of using and authoring GIS content with Esri ArcGIS Online (preferred)
