Project Manager - Super Grid Transformers

We are looking for an experienced Project Manager with at least 5 years of proven success delivering complex projects within the energy sector. This position is centred on Super Grid Transformer projects ranging from 132kV to 400kV and encompasses the full project lifecycle, including design, manufacturing, supply, installation, and commissioning. Candidates must have direct experience working with leading transformer manufacturers and delivering projects for major UK Distribution Network Operators such as National Grid, Scottish Power, or UK Power Networks.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead the end-to-end delivery of transformer design, installation, testing, and commissioning activities, ensuring a strong focus on safety, quality, and on-time completion.
Manage and coordinate design reviews, securing all required client and consultant approvals in accordance with project timelines.
Ensure full compliance with HSE/CDM regulations and implement robust risk and quality management processes. Oversee the development, review, submission, and client/PC/consultant approval of Transportation, Installation, and Commissioning RAMS.
Maintain effective communication with cross-functional teams in the UK and overseas manufacturing facilities to ensure equipment is designed, procured, assembled, FAT-tested, and dispatched to schedule.
Coordinate with hauliers to manage inland transportation from port to site, including offloading, skidding, and positioning. Additionally, oversee subcontractor engagement for installation and commissioning activities.
Administer contracts under NEC3/NEC4, including EWN, CEN, CEQ processes, subcontractor agreements, and supplier payment management.
Monitor and control project budgets, schedules (MSP/P6), and scope, ensuring proactive contract management to avoid overruns or unauthorised changes.
Lead effective stakeholder communication and produce clear, concise monthly project progress reports.
Qualifications and Certifications:
Bachelor’s degree, ideally in Electrical Engineering.
At least five years’ experience working on transformer projects within the energy or power sector.
Relevant certifications and skills are advantageous, including PMP/Prince2, NEC3/NEC4, SMSTS, NG Person, proficiency with Monday.com and other document management systems, as well as strong MS Office capability.
Strong technical expertise in transformer installation, commissioning, and testing.
Proven ability to manage complex contracts, risks, and stakeholder relationships.
Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
Track record of delivering projects safely, on time, and within budget.
