Job title: Project Development Manager (Solar)

Location: United Kingdom (Remote)

TGRC has partnered with a well-known Swedish IPP that is on a mission to kick carbon off the grid by helping energy-intensive businesses switch to solar. They build, operate and own onsite and offsite solar projects, and sell that clean power to businesses.

The role of the project development manager is to support the expansion as Project Manager for Behind-the-Meter projects in development and under construction across the UK, where the current pipeline is 150MW. This person will be responsible for the technical development of rooftop and ground-mounted projects, ranging from 1MW to 50MW+ from early site feasibility through to commissioning.

Responsibilities:

Project Development (From site assessment to FID):

  • Lead customer site visits to assess electrical infrastructure, points of connection, and roof conditions.

  • Manage planning submissions, permitting and grid approvals with support from partners.

  • Manage technical due diligence activities for project acquisitions.

  • Develop and manage relationships with existing and new suppliers, consultants, and other partners.

  • Support the BTM function team with activities, such as ensuring that the project design is properly validated.

  • Develop the BTM function together with the Business Development Director (UK&I) and BTM Operations Manager.

  • Provide technical sales support to the commercial team during the sales phase with input on development timelines, suitable EPCs and local consultants e.g. developing the technical specification, validating technical proposals in RFP documentation in collaboration with Alight development engineers.

Procurement & Construction (From FID to COD):

  • Manage the project budget and cashflow, ensuring proper updates of construction and financial activities to be reflected in the project budget,

  • Manage the procurement process: develop the RFP and EPC documents/contracts, collect and evaluate quotes from EPCs, negotiate terms and conditions, coordinate with different teams and ensure that the RFP documentation and technical and commercial proposal reviews are executed properly.

  • Regular site visits before, after and during construction to ensure overall quality of works and on-site HSE conditions.

  • Ensure that the quality of the project is in line with Alight’s technical requirements, HSE and ESG standards, through proper documentation and validation of works and milestones.

  • Review and accept, and if needed coordinate with the different teams, the documents which are part of the commissioning process and handover process to Asset Management

  • Manage the site/project from FID to COD and hand it over to the Asset Management team.

To succeed in this role:

  • EPC and/or electrical engineering background.

  • Track record and experience from having developed and constructed GC and BtM projects in the local market/region where based.

  • Project management experience.

  • Proven ability to manage local site stakeholders and customers through development, construction and COD.
