Overview

 

The Business Development Manager (BDM) will have a key role in supporting the distributed energy team grow a behind the meter renewables generation business.

This role will help develop a stable pipeline of new opportunities from inception to close and maintaining the relationship thereafter. Coinciding with sales, the role will have involvement in strategic marketing, developing presentations, proposals and delivering them. Alongside the client facing elements of the role, the BDM will be expected to provide site assements/studies, procurement engagement, developing new projects and contract development.

The client has multiple revenue streams and can work with some of the heaviest energy users in helping them reduce their environmental impact via project development, energy efficiency schemes and sustainable energy sourcing.

 

Job Purpose

 

 

Business Development The BDM will proactively support the wider team’s core business development activities including (but not necessarily limited to);  

 

  • Identifying and researching potential prospective customers
  • Converting leads and prospects to business
  • Presenting and discussing proposals with customers
  • Ensuring contracts are signed by new customers
  • Managing and maintaining customer relationships
  • Attending relevant industry events, to engage with market participants and generate new business  
  • Engaging with the market and developing an understanding of its potential
  • Contributing to the development of commercial propositions
  • Contributing to the positioning of these propositions in the market (product, price, place, promotion)
  • Support the management of site assessments and project development work
  • Providing support for the wider team to develop generation ’Behind the Meter’ (BtM) propositions based on various technologies (including preparation of customer proposals, assessment of business cases, presentation preparation etc.) 
  • Working collaboratively with the wider team to review and progress projects to completion  
  • This role will be involved in other ad-hoc duties as required by the line manager and other Senior Managers from time to time
  • The role will require extensive travel in the UK (and potentially occasional travel abroad)

 

Accountability/Key Responsibilities

 

 

The BDM will:

 

  • Have proven experience in a similar business Development role, selling energy solutions and services to industrial and commercial customers (I&C), e.g. related to solar PV, CHP, energy storage, DSR
  • Self-starter and Results–oriented: Proven experience of working to targets and achieving them within established timelines in a commercial or sales driven role
  • Able to lead the customer journey from initial prospect identification to signing contracts
  • Able to demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of Renewable energy and energy flexibility commercial potential for large energy consumers  
  • Related business processes (including relevant permits/licenses, project development, procurement etc.)
  • Ability to work with financial models and create detailed customer proposals
  • Demonstrate the drive, vision and professional resilience required to build a new line of business
  • Demonstrates a collaborative working style
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • Excellent influencing skills
  • Strong Analytical and problem-solving skills (someone who demonstrates innovative thinking).
  • Proficiency in MS Office (in particular Excel)

  • Able to travel extensively throughout the UK and occasionally abroad as required

Desirable:

 

  • Proven experience in and detailed knowledge of solar PV and/or CHP projects and the wider supply chain
  • Experience of using CRM tools (e.g. Salesforce, Hubspot)
  • Experience of using solar design tools (e.g. PVSyst, Helioscope
